HOURLY RANGE: $24.25 - $31.45 DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves assisting licensed pharmacists in the dispensing and compounding of drugs in the Pharmacy Department at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation (ECMCC). The incumbent assists in compounding, preparing and labeling drugs used to fill patient medication orders. The work is performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Direct supervision includes the approval by a licensed pharmacist of all work performed by a Pharmacy Technician prior to the actual dispensing of any drug. Supervision is not a function of this position. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Assists a licensed Pharmacist in compounding, preparing and labelling drugs used to fill patient medication orders; Retrieves prescription data from patient electronic medical record for verification of all information needed to fill a prescription by a licensed pharmacist prior to dispensing a prescription; Retrieves drugs from stock and returns them to stock; Prepares dosage units of drugs in appropriate containers to fill medication orders; Attaches prescription labels to containers; Prepares manual records of dispensing for the signature or initials of the licensed pharmacist; Handles and delivers completed medications to person authorized to act on behalf of the patient; Monitors medications and intravenous solutions for expiration dates and removes expired medications from all stock areas; Completes nursing unit inspections regarding dispensing of drugs; Repackages medications into dispensing units. Responsibilities + Manually fill prescription vials with prescribed tablets and capsules. + Retrieve and process Unit of Use and Bulk items. + Read computer-generated screens to find indicated medication on labeled shelves and verify the size and strength of the product before filling orders. + Replenish medication in automated cells to full capacity by opening large quantities of bottles and cases of products. + Use basic mathematical reasoning to count or calculate the appropriate number of units needed to fill prescriptions. + Use a handheld scanner unit to scan barcodes of products for replenishment. + Demonstrate problem resolution skills by recognizing, addressing, and escalating issues. + Maintain focus and acute attention to detail while performing repetitive tasks with absolute accuracy. + Maintain the pharmacy floor in a clean and orderly condition. + Understand and abide by federal and state HIPAA laws as well as pharmacy standard procedures to ensure patient safety and privacy. + Process orders for shipping, including folding/packing paperwork and attaching shipping labels. + Fill, pack, and ship prescriptions with 100% accuracy and efficiency using Standard Operating Procedures and supported hardware and software. + Perform housekeeping and other duties as assigned. + Adhere to and promote the Company's Shared ICARE Principles. + Mandatory overtime is required based on business needs. Work Environment The work environment is climate-controlled and requires adherence to a part-time schedule of 24 to 36 hours a week. Fridays and Sundays are mandatory workdays, with shifts on Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, and Friday from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. We are growing and currently seeking experienced Pharmacy Technicians to join our evening tech team! The shift will 2pm - 10pm M-F with rotating Saturdays. PHARMACY TECHNICIAN Perform duties to prepare and dispense prescription medications and supplies under the direction of a Registered Pharmacist, in a fast-paced Long Term Care Pharmacy where attention to accuracy, regulatory compliance, and efficiency are critical to patient safety and care, working within the limits of standard or accepted practice. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: · Perform job assignments in full compliance and complete understanding of the State and Federal laws and internal policies and procedures governing the handling, dispensing and distribution of medications dispensed by Parkview Health Services. · Ensure patient's order is satisfied to completion by reviewing patient profile in pharmacy system. · Prepare, label, and dispense medications under Pharmacist supervision. · Support Pharmacist in keeping accurate inventory levels. Sort and stock inventory of medications, vials, and dispensing supplies and return excess stock or unused medications to inventory. · Responsible for prioritizing and navigating the print pharmacy system's print queue. Print medication labels and check for inventory balance on medications in the pharmacy ordering system. · Complete adherence pack corrections and provide basic support of the adherence packing machine as needed. · Maintain clean and safe work environment. · Assist logistics team with the packaging and shipping of medications and supplies as required, to maintain workflow and commitments to customers. · Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications COMPETENCIES: · Consistent focus and attention to detail resulting in superior accuracy. · Demonstrated organizational skills. · Demonstrated ability to lift and move heavy packages (up to 30 lbs.) in compliance with safe handling procedures. · Proficient computer skills and ability to easily navigate through pharmacy system and Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) applications. · Demonstrated ability to work independently on assigned tasks or in a team setting while focused on detail, accuracy, and productivity.
