Job Summary: Performs a variety of duties to assist the staff pharmacist which do not require the professional judgement of a Registered Pharmacist. Assists in Pharmacy Operations under supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
• Coordinates pharmacy technician workflow within the department on a day to day basis.
• Maintains work flow in a timely and orderly manner to preclude delays.
In collaboration with the Director of Pharmacy, manages the pharmacy technician schedule - including schedule creation, updates, vacation coverage, appropriate staffing levels and management of call-outs.
In collaboration with Pharmacy Leadership, assesses and recommends improvements to pharmacy operations on a regular basis.
Monitors and maintains stock levels of pharmaceuticals and supplies.
• Assures that pharmaceuticals are stored in accordance with manufacturer's recommendation.
• Fills drug requisitions for patient care locations.
• Prepares drug kits or trays with appropriate controls.
• Restocks Pyxis automated dispensing machines.
• Delivers medications and IV products to patient care locations.
• Delivers or restocks Controlled Substances with the appropriate controls.
• Processes pharmaceuticals returned from patient care locations.
• Identifies and segregates short dated and outdated pharmaceuticals.
• Unpacks, checks, and places into inventory purchases pharmaceuticals.

As a Pharmacy IV Technician you will:
Clean, maintain, and monitor the Sterile Compounding Room in accordance with USP 797 and state regulatory standards. Compound sterile preparations, including those from non-sterile powders, within a Class 100 cleanroom environment.
Prepare and fill prescriptions for long-term care residents and Alere high-risk pregnancy patients, following established policies and quality standards.
Support quality assurance (QA) processes, ensuring compliance with all compounding and documentation requirements.
Assist pharmacists with data entry, refill coordination, and communication with nursing homes and Alere clients.
Stage, prepare, and fill medication orders accurately and efficiently.
Maintain and clean infusion pumps and other sterile compounding equipment, ensuring proper calibration and safety.
Replenish and maintain Emergency Drug Kits (EDK) for long-term care facilities.
Perform shipping and tracking of Alere packages via third-party overnight logistics providers.
Support inventory management, filing, answering phones, and stocking areas within the IV department.
Collaborate with the Lead IV Technician and Pharmacy Supervisor to maintain a safe, compliant, and organized work environment.
Promptly report any operational or compliance concerns related to USP 797 standards.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Pharmacist, IV Supervisor, or Director of Pharmacy.

* Mixes pharmaceutical preparations, fills patient medication drawers with prescribed tablets and capsules, and types labels for unit dose medication packing. Compounding of non-sterile products for ultimate patient use.
* Assists Pharmacist to prepare and dispense both control and non-control medications.
* Receives and stores incoming supplies.
* Performs rounds to pick up orders, deliver medication, IV solutions, and medication supplies to patient care areas.
* Fills and maintains automatic dispensing machines.
* Prepares intravenous (IV) solutions, using sterile technique, under supervision of hospital Pharmacist. Handles pharmaceuticals including antineoplastic agents, anesthetic agents and other potentially hazardous substances according to safe practices as established by procedure.
* Cleans equipment and disinfects glassware and equipment according to prescribed methods.
* Trains and supervises Technician Trainees and Junior Technicians.
* Inspects patient care areas for compliance with policies and procedures.
* Assists the Pharmacy Department in quality improvement/quality assurance activity.
* Assists in maintaining the organization and cleanliness of department (i.e., drug shelving, drug storage areas, and various departmental records.
Pharmacy Technician Education and Experience Requirements:
* High School diploma required
* Registered with the state of Connecticut as Pharmacy Technician, or registration obtained within 30 days of hire required.
* National pharmacy technician certification required within 6 months of hire.
