About this Job:
The Pharmacy Technician II assists the Pharmacist in preparing and distributing medications to patients. The Pharmacy Technician performs designated advanced level technical functions to facilitate pharmacy operations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Consistently fulfills all the responsibilities of the Pharmacy Technician I.
Under the supervision of the licensed Pharmacist prepares oral topical and specific parenteral medications for dispensing to patients including the selection labeling and packaging of appropriate pharmaceuticals and filling of medication carts.
Enters physician orders into the hospital computer system to update/edit patient profiles
and charges.
Assists patients nurses physicians and others with medication order requests and pharmacy related needs.
Monitors stock inventory levels and medication expiration dates for pharmacy areas and replenishes medications as needed. Conducts monthly/periodic inspections of patient care/department areas.
Fills and replaces medications in the automated medication dispensing machines and transports to appropriate nursing unit(s).
Prepares mini bags large volume parenterals mini bag plus etc. using aseptic techniques including STATS.
Delivers and retrieves medications including narcotics and pharmacy supplies to/from patient care and satellite pharmacy areas.
Compounds products in bulk or per individual order and prepares private stock orders and individual unit-of-use packaging when not otherwise available.
Completes and maintains controlled substance inventory log/records.
Participates in orienting new Pharmacy Technicians to department operations and the
computer system.
Maintains clean and orderly workstations.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or GED required
May require up to 1 year of technical or other specialized training
Experience
Eighteen months of hospital experience required
A diploma from an approved pharmacy technician training program may be an acceptable alternative for six months of experience
Licenses and Certifications
DC DOH - Pharmacy Technician Registration required
PTCB - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or equivalent national certification within 180 Days required

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
* Communicates with patient regarding prescription cost/co-pays and their ability to pay. Collects payment for prescriptions; processes cash check credit card transactions; secures appropriate signatures; and ensures compliance with HIPAA requirements.
* Delivers prescriptions to patient's room and shows medications to patient; offers and facilitates counseling by a pharmacist if requested; hands prescriptions to patient's nurse in secure bag for storage on the floor until patient is discharged.

Work Environment
This position is based in a hospital setting with afternoon/mid-shift hours from 3pm-11pm, Monday through Friday, with rotating weekends. Training may occur on the day shift depending on experience. The pharmacy department operates at an extremely fast-paced environment, filling one prescription per minute within 24 hours in one department. Technicians handle a minimum of 2,000 dosages in one shift and are constantly on their feet for eight hours with two 15-minute breaks and one 30-minute lunch. Hospitals are a 24/7 operation, so candidates must expect to rotate holidays and weekends. In inclement weather, the hospital will compensate for Ubers round trip. Candidates are expected to pay for parking; however, there is an additional 50 cents per hour to help with reimbursement.

Position Summary:
The Pharmacy Floor Technician plays a key role in supporting daily pharmacy operations, ensuring prescriptions are accurately prepared, labeled, and ready for final pharmacist verification. This role works in a fast-paced, collaborative environment alongside pharmacists, technicians, and clerks to maintain efficient workflow and timely prescription fulfillment while adhering to all regulatory and safety standards.
Schedule:
2nd Shift: 8-hour shift starting between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Overtime and weekend work are not typically required but may occasionally be necessary to meet prescription release deadlines
Key Responsibilities:
Accurately and efficiently fill daily prescription orders under the supervision of a pharmacist
Pick, label, scan, and prepare prescriptions for final pharmacist verification
Assist in processing returned medications according to company procedures
Pre-pack frequently ordered medications, label, and store as needed during low-volume periods
Pull medications from shelving and storage areas, ensuring proper handling and organization
Apply labels to blister cards and scan products for accuracy verification
Notify pharmacists of any discrepancies or scanning issues
Maintain clean and organized workstations, restocking supplies as needed
Follow all HIPAA, safety, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Clear and active Pharmacy Technician License issued by the Maryland Board of Pharmacy
Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English
Strong attention to detail and ability to work at a consistent, moderate pace
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience as a pharmacy technician (retail or long-term care setting preferred)
Physical Demands:

Primary Responsibilities:
Prepare prescription orders by verifying information and pulling appropriate prescriptions from inventory

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Abides by recommendations from regulatory and advisory groups regarding safe medication principles including look alike sound alike and high alert drugs. Responds appropriately to medication occurrences. Understands and takes appropriate action when a medication occurrence is identified. Complies with internal reporting requirements for medication occurrences using the Patient Safety Event system. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
Assists pharmacists in obtaining patient specific information as appropriate for safe medication management. Under direct supervision participates in the exchange of information with appropriate healthcare professionals and staff.
Ensures that medications are properly and safely stored throughout the hospital. Stores medications under conditions necessary to ensure stability. Secures medications in accordance with the hospital's policy law and regulation. Refills and replaces medications in automated medication dispensing machines throughout the hospital. Troubleshoots and services automated medication dispensing machines as needed. Appropriately labels all medications and chemicals used to prepare medications with contents expiration dates and appropriated warnings. Routinely inspects all medication storage areas according to hospital's policy. Adheres to all laws regulations and hospital policies regarding the management and handling of recalled discontinued unused expired or returned medications. Inspects returned medications for integrity before returning to pharmacy stock. Segregates outdated or recalled medications from pharmacy stock.
Participates in the evaluation of the hospital's medication management system for risk points and identifies areas to improve safety.
Safely and accurately prepares all medications in the most ready to administer form (including hazardous medications and sterile products) using proper techniques calculations and appropriate precautions. Labels and packages medications according to hospital policy applicable laws and regulations and standards of practice to ensure safe accurate administration (i.e. labels medications with the drug name strength quantity beyond use date patient name patient location and directions for use). Maintains documentation for all repackaged medications as required by departmental policy.
Selection and Procurement: Ensures that medications are selected and procured based on departmental criteria. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the formulary list and the formulary process. Adheres to policies and procedures regarding the procurement of non-formulary medications. Adheres to policies and procedures that address medication shortages outages emergency and disaster situations. If applicable adheres to policies and procedures regarding the 340B Drug Pricing Program.
Stores controlled substances in such a manner to prevent diversion in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations. Accounts for all unused expired or returned medications according to law. Utilizes automation where applicable.
Transports medication to patient care units placing in the designated delivery locations within established departmental standards for turnaround times.
