Under the supervision and direction of a pharmacist, conducts a wide range of delegated technical and clerical functions necessary to support the provision of pharmacy products and services; supports departmental/organizational quality initiatives. Technical duties will include: compounding (sterile and non-sterile), packaging, and preparation of medication doses and IV products; refilling of various medication supply kits, carts, drawers, bags, etc.; maintenance of automated dispensing devices; inventory management. Clerical duties will include: answering incoming phone calls; billing; unit inspections; departmental cleaning and organizing; report generation and review; conducting billing and medication utilization audits; filing and record keeping. Employment Type: Limited Hours, 16 hours every 2 weeks Schedule: Every other Saturday and Sunday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm and 1:30 pm - 10:00 pm Requirements: Licensed Pharmacy Technician OR Licensed Pharmacist Intern Certification Required, High School Diploma or GED equivalent required, Currently enrolled in, or pursuing a degree in a Pharmacy-related field preferred Pharmacy Services Assists the Pharmacist in the Provision of Pharmacy Services: Assists the pharmacist in accurate medication selection, counting and preparation (sterile and non-sterile) as evidenced by lack of pharmacist complaints or occurrences. Supports the pharmacist in providing services by responding appropriately and timely to medication preparation and distribution upon request from the pharmacist, nurse, physician or prearranged work assignments as evidenced by a lack of peer complaints or occurrences. Maintains appropriate knowledge of existing pharmacy systems and software needed to support pharmacy functions as evidenced by lack of peer complaints. Customer Service Provides good customer relations in response to phone calls, Vocera..etc, and completes follow-up of requests. Uses appropriate phone etiquette when answering phone calls as evidenced by request resolution and lack of complaints. Medication Preparation and Replenishment Proficient in Medication Preparation and Replenishment Accurately prepares unit dose pick, first dose and floor stock medication/supplies as evidenced by lack of pharmacist, physician and nursing complaints or occurrences. Delivers prepared products, replenishing anesthesia boxes, crash carts, EMS bags and medication kits in an accurate and timely fashion. Accurately fills and/or checks medication exchange drawers. Maintains control, accountability, and distribution of controlled substances; including documentation, refill of inventories and kits, reconciliation of discrepancies identified as evidenced by completed documentation or occurrence generation. Maintains good customer relations as it relates to the non- Pyxis distribution of medications; missing med support, troubleshooting, problem-solving and nursing assistance. Accurately prepares and labels non-sterile products; packages and repacks medication in accordance with departmental procedure as evidenced by documentation logs. Daily Operation and Maintenance of System Proficient in the Daily Operation and Maintenance of Automated Distribution System (Pyxis) Accurate in loading, unloading, refilling, outdate checking, discrepancy resolution and general maintenance of the Automated Distribution System (Pyxis) as evidenced by lack of nursing/pharmacy/peer complaints and medication occurrences. Maintains the daily operations of Automated Distribution System (Pyxis) in accordance with departmental polices, and practices as evidenced by competency completion. Prepares and distributes Automated Distribution System (Pyxis) medication in a timely manner as directed by prearranged work assignments (refill reports) or emergent reports (stock outs, refill, load, unload..etc) as evidenced by lack of peer complaint or occurrence. Generates and reviews required reports (including change reports), addresses reports in accordance with departmental practice initiating corrective actions in response to discrepancies or irregularities in medication utilization. Maintains good customer relations as it relates to the Automated Distribution system; troubleshooting and problem-solving, end-user (nursing) assistance and user education. IV Admixture Procedures, Maintenance, and Documentation Proficient in IV Admixture Procedures Including Using Aseptic Technique in the Preparation of Medications, Maintenance of the IV Compounding Area and Documentation Practices. Accurately prepares IV Admixtures and sterile compounding as evidenced by a lack of pharmacist complaint or occurrences. Accurately prepares IV Admixtures and sterile compounding in accordance with departmental policies and procedures as evidenced by the lack of contamination in test solutions. Maintains competency in IV Admixture calculations, clean room policies, and aseptic technique practice as evidenced by competency completion. Maintains the IV preparation room and equipment, including cleaning surfaces, stock, preparation areas (compounding hoods) and calibration in accordance with departmental policies and procedures as evidenced by documentation logs. Medication Management Support Assists with Medication Management Support Activities in Accordance with Regulatory Expectations and Departmental Quality Initiatives Maintains good pharmacy control and security of medication and storage locations, including the pharmacy, through completion of unit inspections as directed by departmental policy; evidenced by unit inspection documentation. Participates in quality assurance and improvement activities, including occurrence report generation. Supports departmental quality initiatives, patient safety and hospital core value practices as evidence by lack of peer complaints and occurrences. Maintains safe medication products throughout the hospital and department by removal of outdates evidenced by documentation. Maintains an orderly and safe work environment through departmental cleaning and organizing and adherence to general work related polices. Assists the pharmacist, pharmacy leadership, and lead technician in various ad hoc committees, task forces and projects to improve or maintain pharmacy services. Billing and Supply Management Proficient in Obtaining and Billing for Medications and Pharmacy Supplies; Conducts Inventory Management Activities. Proficient in the use of the pharmacy medication purchasing system to maintain sufficient inventory as evidenced by completed orders. Maintains knowledge on procurement of pharmacy supplies and medications through: alternative medication and supply distributors; and stockroom ordering systems as evidenced by received orders. Proficient in stocking shelves as evidenced by alack of errors. Participates in inventory management practices, including appropriate stock pars, and yearly physical inventory. Conducts appropriate patient charging and crediting, applies interdepartmental billing processes, and charge capture review. Generates required reports, reviews billing reports, and initiates corrections to discrepancies. Files reports as required.
