Physical Requirements: Must be able to physically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), and field of vision. Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Working Conditions: This position frequently involves a fast work pace in a retail store setting. There is an occasional exposure to dangerous chemicals/solvents while compounding products and chemotherapy drugs. The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor serves as a member of the Pharmacy management team. Under general supervision of the Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Managers, the Technician Supervisor coordinates, supervises and is responsible for pharmacy technician personnel and technical services of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center (HCCC) Pharmacy, Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) Pharmacy, Pomerantz Pharmacy, and the Specialty Pharmacy Operations located at the Medical Center University Campus. The Technician Supervisor is aware of all processes and procedures, ensures accountability of technician services, and can perform the technical activities in all Ambulatory Care Pharmacies as necessary. This position's work location is at Medical Center University campus but may also require travel to offsite satellite facilities. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Human Resource Management Supervises technical activities of technician staff in HCCC, ASC, Pomerantz and the Specialty Pharmacy at the Medical Center University. Manages the hiring of staff and students, including candidate evaluation, interviewing, and onboarding. Ensures accountability and documentation of staff competencies. Develops, manages, and optimizes the performance of staff. Ensures staff are compliant with policies, procedures, and regulations. Meets with staff routinely to advance engagement and support. This position will work an 8-hour shift every Saturday and Sunday scheduled between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., with occasional shifts ending between 8:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., along with an additional 4-hour shift during the week or an additional 8 hour shift every other week. This position may also support both pediatric and adult ambulatory care operations at a UI Health Care central fill pharmacy location. Recognize workflow patterns for effective triage of prescriptions. * Answer telephone lines and triage phone calls per established policies and procedures. * Utilize and maintain the ScriptPro Robot * Fill cells/cassettes * Clean cells/cassettes * Map brand changes/assign drugs to cells * Return unwanted prescriptions to cells * Daily maintenance * Fill/refill prescriptions * Read label for accuracy and correct as needed. * Label and package the correct medication. * Accurately compound medications requested for prescriptions, clinic doses, and inpatients. * Answer the dedicated prescription refill telephone line. * Generate prescription refill label. * Verify address for prescription(s) to be mailed and the date medication is needed. * Fill out call check and note pickup time or date to be mailed. * Prepare prescriptions for mailing and shipping according to established policies and procedures. * Perform inventory maintenance activities. * Return to stock medications that have not been picked up by patients * Order supplies from Hospital Stores. * Perform daily and monthly drug inventories as requested * Generate and/or maintain (includes filing) appropriate records related to prescription dispensing such as hard copies of prescriptions, hemophiliac patient profiles, mailing/shipping forms/logs, and prescription quality assurance audits. * Perform activities involving narcotics and controlled substances including: * Conduct weekly and monthly inventories * Order replacement supplies from internal source * Audit records associated with dispensing of narcotics and controlled substances * Resolve discrepancies on issuance forms * Conduct assigned audits in patient care clinic areas (Certified Technicians Only) * Audit area for compliance with medication security, segregation of dosage forms, expiration dates, approved samples, Emergency Medication Tray expiration date, appropriate drug storage and references. * Maintain area orderliness and cleanliness. * Assist in on the job training of new technicians. * Coordinate technical activities with other members of team. * Complete and maintain compliance with all competencies and educational requirements. * This position may also support both pediatric and adult ambulatory care operations at a UI Health Care central fill pharmacy location. * Shifts will be scheduled to work 8-hour shifts scheduled between the hours of 7:00 am - 7:00 pm, with an occasional shift ending between 8:30 pm-11:30 pm. Certified Technician Minimum Eligibility Requirements: * Registered with the Pharmacy Board at the time of hire. * National certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
