The Pharmacy Department at NGOC has an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Technician ‐ Float!
This position is full‐time/day shift and primarily responsible for NGOC at North Fulton. May float to other sites (Cartersville, Cherokee Health Park, Marietta).
Overview
Prepare, compound, dispense medications, and perform other technical duties in the pharmacy department under direct supervision of a Pharmacist. Must demonstrate competency through supervised observation and/or any other necessary annual required competencies. Must be proficient in all responsibilities and duties of certified pharmacy technician.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilites and Essential Functions
Medication Distribution ‐
* Single Dispense ‐ must prepare medications and/or IV for dispensing, select correct medication, correct strength, and correct form. Fill, label, and initial medication bag for a pharmacist verification.
* Bulk Dispense‐ Must fill multiple patient specific medications in accordance with department procedure.
* Transportation‐ bulk fill, first dose, and missing doses will be delivered securely to the appropriate units, while practicing appropriate procedure to ensure confidentiality for all patients.
* Missing Doses‐ upon request, must properly generate label, fill and have checked by a pharmacist, then dispense to the appropriate floor or unit.
* Product Preparation‐ must properly prepare, measure, count, medications including compound ointments, creams, oral solutions, oral solids, IV, etc.
(ADC) Automatic Dispensing Cabinet
* User‐ must be capable of accurately adding new users to the ADC system.
* Product‐ must properly load ADC with correct medications after medication is checked by a pharmacist. Monitor par levels and increase or decrease as needed.
* Reports‐ must be able to generate needed reports to fill, track, and identify/report all discrepancies.
* Minor Maintenance‐ must trouble shoot minor problems with ADC.
* Restock‐ must accurately fill medication, fluids and stock outs as needed.
* Recall‐ must assist the pharmacist and inventory specialist in retrieving recalled medications.
* Controlled Substances‐ Must follow all policies, procedures, and applicable laws with controlled substance medications.
IV Admixture
* Aseptic technique‐ Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic technique including; proper hand washing and proper use of IV Room attire. Understand Joint Commission, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures. Must complete an aseptic technique competency to show compliance with USP standards, conducted by supervisor or Lead Pharmacy Technician.
* Small volume‐ Demonstrate knowledge of preparing small volume admixtures
* Specialty solutions‐ Demonstrate knowledge of preparing epidural, intrathecal, intravenous, intramuscular, sterile syringes and chemotherapy (when applicable)
* Syringes‐ Demonstrate knowledge of preparing neonatal syringes (when applicable)
* Large volume‐ Demonstrate knowledge of preparing large volume solutions
* Room cleaning ‐ Demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedures regarding maintaining clean room environment.
* Safety and Compliance ‐ Follows all safety and compliance standards for safely compounding medications. Always ensure that all requirements and procedures of United States Pharmacopeia [USP] are met.
Miscellaneous Activities:
* Repackaging and bar‐coding medications‐ must accurately label all repackaged items per Georgia Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations.
* Properly provide customer service to customers and other healthcare professionals via in‐person or virtual means.
* Process any charges: late charges, supplemental, OR charges, nuclear and exception report.
* Ordering supplies and obtaining purchase orders using the appropriate ordering system.
* Must be proficient in the distribution and accountability of Controlled Substance Medications.
* Code Carts / Kits ‐ Must restock code carts and other kits returned to pharmacy according to departmental procedure and ensure required inspections are completed.
* Must perform monthly unit and pharmacy inspections and ensure that assigned pharmacy or medication area is clean including temperature and humidity monitoring.
* Must perform out date tracking on medications in various locations of the facility.
* Train and mentor pharmacy technicians under lead pharmacy technician.

Required Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Required Minimum Experience:
Hospital pharmacy experience is preferred
General experience in all phases of pharmacy operations including basic knowledge of automated dispensing cabinets, inventory management, medication order interpretation, and Ga. Pharmacy law.
Required Minimum Skills:
Basic computer skills.
Good oral communication skills.
Basic management skills.
Good "problem solving" skills.
Good interpersonal skills.
Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.

Job Summary:
Must be proficient in all responsibilities and duties of Pharmacy Technician.?Must be capable of providing leadership to Technicians. Provide assistance to Technician Supervisor. Must be able to provide supervision to Technicians assigned to IV room (when applicable).
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Medication Distribution ‐ Patient Specific
a.First Dose and PRN ‐ must pull labels from medication and/or IV printer, select correct medication, correct strength, and correct form from shelves. Fill, label, and initial medication bag and leave for a pharmacist to check, then deliver or tube to the appropriate units. Remember to clearly identify refrigerated items.
b.Cart Fill‐ Must fill patient specific medications in accordance with department procedure.
c.Transportation‐ cart fill, first dose, and missing doses will be delivered to the appropriate units in the hospital, while practicing appropriate procedure to ensure confidentiality for all patients. (e.g.: covering patients labels, medication bags or any other item containing patient information)
d.Missing Doses‐ upon request, must properly generate label, fill and have checked by a pharmacist, then dispense to the appropriate floor or unit.
e.Product Preparation‐ must properly prepare/compound ointments, creams and oral solutions, etc
IV Admixture
a.Aseptic technique‐ must view and understand aseptic technique video. Demonstrate proper hand washing and proper use of IV Room attire (gown, gloves, mask, shoe and hair covers) Understand the TJC, hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Must complete an aseptic technique check off to show compliance with USP 797t, conducted by supervisor or approved IV Tech. Must be trained under direct supervision and final approval by the pharmacist or supervisors.
b.Small volume‐ (IVPB) these items will be prepared upon demand or with the IV batch using aseptic technique.
c.Specialty solutions‐ epidural, intrathecal, IVIG, Prolastin, sterile syringes and chemotherapy will be made as required.
d.Syringes‐ Neonatal syringes (when applicable) will be made daily in the A.M. and given a 24 hours expiration date. A pharmacist prior to preparing syringes must check all admixtures.
e.Large volume‐ (LVA) Electrolytes, KCL and maintenance fluids will be made as needed or with the IV batch.
f.TPN‐ must be trained / approved to calibrate and operate the total parenteral nutrition machine. (when applicable) must identify correct additive to be used, a pharmacist must check prior to injecting additives.
g.TPN Equipment‐ (when applicable) must clean, disassemble and reassemble all tubing. Replace all additives and run all required reports.
h.Room cleaning and restocking‐ IV hood must be cleaned every shift and/or as needed to maintain sterile work surface. IV room must be restocked every shift or as needed. IV room must be clean atall times and cleared of any cardboard boxes, etc. Always ensure that all requirements and procedures of are met.
(ADC) Automatic Dispensing Cabinet (Pyxis)
a.User‐ must be capable of accurately adding new users to the PYXIS system.
b.Product‐ must properly load cubies with correct medications. After checked by a pharmacist, cubie should be loaded into PYXIS. Monitor par levels, increase or decrease as needed.
c.Reports‐ must be able to generate needed reports to fill, track, and identify/report all discrepancies.
d.Minor Maintenance‐ must trouble shoot minor problems; recover failed cubies and/or drawers.
e.Restock‐ must accurately fill medication, fluids and stock outs as needed.
f.Recall‐ must assist the pharmacist and supply specialist in retrieving recall medications.
Miscellaneous Activities:
a.Rotate through all work areas of the pharmacy
b.Prepackaging and bar‐coding medications‐ must accurately label all tablets, capsules, liquids, mouthwash and oral syringes. (e.g. medication name, strength, NDC #, Lot, and expiration date.)
c.Properly provide customer service with phone calls and front window.
d.Process all charges: late charges, supplemental, OR charges, nuclear and exception report.
e.Properly sort and store employee prescriptions from the Apothecary.
f.Ordering supplies and obtaining PO #'s using the HSS system.
g.Capable of generating orders, checking in orders, completing invoices, processing returns using the wholesaler computer system, and reconciling invoices with statements for accounts payable.
h.Coordinate training for new technicians and provide supervision when needed.
i.Provide assistance to Technician Supervisor with specific areas of annual evaluations.
j.Must be proficient in the distribution and accountability of Controlled Substance.
Area Inspections:
a.Code Cart‐ Must restock emergency medication when cart is used and return to pharmacy. A pharmacist must check the code cart before being sealed, code cart is returned to the unit or if spare cart is kept in pharmacy, return to storage area. Code Carts will be inspected quarterly for expired medications.
b.Must perform monthly unit and pharmacy inspections for expired/obsolete medication. Also, ensure that assigned pharmacy area is clean and free of dust.
c.Must perform monthly out date tracking on medications in the PYXIS cabinets.
Performs other duties as assigned

Job Summary:
The Nuclear Medicine technologist assists with providing safe, age appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams provided by the department per department procedures. The technologist has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. He/she is responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. The technologist can independently perform job functions. He/she sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Patient Care * Verifies proper clinician order for procedure. * Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data and assesses for contraindicating conditions. * Follows established procedures for the administration of radiopharmaceuticals so that no patient condition deteriorates, and no patient suffers undue pain, due to error or poor technique. * Ensures that all studies have proper patient identification and right and left marker are utilized appropriately. * Reviews images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients. * Responds to emergency situations and provides for the restocking of the crash cart and maintenance of life support equipment. * Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed. * Observes patient condition and properly evaluates situations when physician intervention is necessary so that no patient condition deteriorates. * Verifies correct identity of patient using 2 unique identifiers prior to performing a procedure per hospital policy and procedure. * Ensures patient's privacy and comfort is accommodated. Maintains patients dignity throughout the exam/procedure. * Demonstrates competence in the determination and application of appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies and techniques based on the age of patients. * Organizes schedule, time and priorities so that required activities are accomplished within designated time frames. * Follows physicians instructions when assisting with procedures and exams. * Uses critical thinking skills. * Dialogs with patient/family. * Asks clarifying questions. * Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders. * Understands, demonstrates and documents preprocedural verification and Time Out process when appropriate. * Demonstrates and understands pre‐and‐post procedural care. * Preps the patient for the procedure. * Demonstrates and understands sterile technique * Maintains competency with venipuncture. Equipment * Demonstrates the ability to adjust technique so that patient receives the best study possible and that image quality is maintained. * Reports problems regarding malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or service provider, so that problem can be corrected in a timely manner. * Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment in accordance with infection control policy and department cleaning schedule. Education and Communications * Patiently and clearly explains purpose and nature of exam to patient prior to starting of procedure, to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation using AIDET; Acknowledge, Introduce, Discuss, Explain, and Thank you of all patients and family members. * Ensures that patient's questions, concerns or contraindications are satisfactorily addressed, notifying physician when this cannot be accomplished, prior to the initiation of the procedure. * Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees. * Required documentation is concise, legible and includes precise terminology. * Reads email each day scheduled to work and follows through with assignment. * Completes mandatory departmental and Hospital‐wide education without prompting. Quality Control * Consistently produces acceptable images, as evidenced by radiologist feedback and quality audits. * Ensures that equipment is fully operational prior to each use, by checking for proper calibration and operating deficiencies. * Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion, prints CDs as needed. * Studies that have been transmitted after hours to teleradiography are printed and scanned in PACS, if applicable. * Completes all studies in RIS before completing in PACS. * Prints completed log sheet from teleradiography and submits to Radiologist, if applicable. Operations * Restocks linens and supplies, and maintains NM department in clean and orderly condition. * Transports patients, positions patients, and helps them on and off procedure table. * Performs patient charging activities on the day the service is rendered. * Applies supportive and immobilization devices and equipment. * Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others upon request as needed and routinely as time is available, without prompting, so that all working time is used for departmental advantage. * Performs routine duties of clerical and support personnel in accordance with procedure when warranted to ensure continuity and quality of services. * Keeps supervisor informed on all responsibilities on an ongoing basis, ensuring prompt notification in the event of problems or potential problems. * Maintains an individual productivity rate equal to other co‐workers. * Ability to operate NM equipment within the department. * Maintains Joint Commission standards and any other regulatory agency standards. * Any other duties as assigned. * Takes call when necessary. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education:
Accredited Program Radiologic Technology
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
ARRT‐N ‐ ARRT Nuclear Technology or CNMT ‐ Cert Nuclear Med Tech
BLS ‐ Basic Life Support or ARC‐BLS ‐ Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS‐I ‐ Basic Life Support ‐ Instructor
Additional License(s) and Certification(s):
Required Minimum Experience:
Graduate of AMA approved Nuclear Medicine Program Required and Minimum 1 year experience in a clinical setting caring for patients (may include clinical rotations) Required or Minimum 1 year NM experience. Preferred
Required Minimum Skills:
Must exhibit excellent communication skills because this position requires frequent verbal and written communications with: physicians, patients, visitors, departmental staff and nursing staff. The employee obtains, presents and discusses clinical information regarding job responsibilities on a routine basis. Candidate must be able to explain or give directions to maintain goodwill, and obtain cooperation with all contacts. Must possess the ability to function independently and under pressure while still actively participating in a team environment.
