Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Pharmacy Technician assists the Pharmacist by performing clerical and technical tasks related to the filling of patient's prescriptions. Patient/Customer Relations: 1. Communicate with patients in a courteous and professional manner in face to face encounters and via the telephone. 2. Educates the patient and family member on the patient's prescriptions within scope of knowledge and authority. Staff Relations/Team Building: 1. Performs other necessary duties as required by the Johnson Health Center to meet the goal of providing pharmacy services to patients. Clinical Duties: 1. Performs clerical and technical functions for the Pharmacist. 2. Uses the pharmacy computer system for data entry including adding patients, looking up prices, filling and refilling prescriptions, as well as other duties associated with prescriptions and patient assistance programs. 3. Operates the point of sale (POS) system and associated duties for product sales. Responsible for record keeping and signature capture. 4. Assists in inventory orders and processing invoices. 5. Will maintain adequate supply of pharmacy supplies, including but limited to paper, labels, bottles, and vials. 6. Mix pharmaceutical preparations. 7. Performs routine housekeeping chores within the pharmacy. Administrative Duties: 1. Attends and participates in staff and other JHC meetings as required. Performance Improvement Activities: 1. Actively participates in the JHC QI program. Safety/Infection Control Activities: 1. Attends all mandatory OSHA infection control seminars, and follows general OSHA guidelines for infection control, including "Universal Precautions". 2. Returns to wholesaler or manufacturer all recalled, out of date or overstocked medications. Ensures medications are stored properly and checks/maintains expiration dates in the pharmacy. Reviews, sorts, and files a variety of materials, including confidential information. Maintains departmental records, files, notebooks and references. Handles departmental mail and correspondence. Greets visitors and receives incoming telephone calls, screening them and making appropriate referrals to staff or departments. Performs other duties as may be assigned that are within the Pharmacy department's mission and as situations warrant in meeting the overall needs of the facility. Nursing Unit and Med cart inspections as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. Accurately label products, including cautionary and auxiliary labels. Prepare medications, including non-sterile compounding (liquids, powders, ointments, etc.). Enter patient and prescription data into the computer system to generate labels. Participate in pharmacy inventory management, including checking stock and removing expired medications.
