Your Job Responsibilities
• Answers the telephone and front door.
• Compounds products in IV Lab using sterile, aseptic technique.
• Gathers items needed for miscellaneous requisitions, orders, crash carts, etc. to be checked by pharmacist prior to dispensing.
• Maintains clean and orderly work area; restocks returned medications, restocks work area to appropriate levels.
• Assists in maintaining inventory levels of pharmaceuticals and supplies by notifying purchasing when items become low or increased usage of particular items in observed: utilized the “short list”.
• Maintains drug storage systems through restock and trouble-shooting functions.
• Maintains Unit Inspections/Cycle Counts outside the department.
• Makes scheduled rounds to all nursing units for the delivery of medications and the pick-up of discontinued medications and orders as needed.
• Makes non-scheduled rounds to any nursing unit as required.
• Perform charges and credits for floor stock sheets, narcotic sheets, miscellaneous charge slips, and returned medications into computer system.
• Processes medications in assigned area (OR, IV lab, first fill) in preparation of final dispensing by the pharmacist.
• Trains new employees as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned

POSTION OVERVIEW:

Under the supervision of the pharmacist, prepares the prescription for filling, checks the compounding record, gathers the necessary pharmaceuticals, stages the prescription and products for the pharmacist to check and compounds the prescription under the direct supervision of the pharmacist.
Maintains all related compounding records, prescription logs, and any other related files as determined by the Director of Pharmacy.
Performs any other related task as determined by the pharmacist or Director of Pharmacy or as determined by the State Board of Pharmacy.
Performs any related aseptic validation testing procedures and to keep a record of those results on file as determined by the Director of Pharmacy.
Maintains all compounding records and Quality Control notebook.
Performs daily temperature checks on refrigerator, freezer, and incubators and documents appropriately.
Clean and calibrate IV pumps and poles per manufacturer's guidelines (see Equipment/Service Technician job description for details).
Participates in IOP program.
REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate.
Desirable: Completion of a pharmacy technician training program with an Associate of Arts Degree, Associate of Science Degree, or Certificate of Completion.
Passed the National Pharmacy Certified Technician (CPhT or equivalent) exam.
Completed the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists (ASHP) or equivalent aseptic technique course.
Have a minimum of six months hospital pharmacy technician or related experience and a good working knowledge of pharmacy procedures; or have a minimum of six months pharmacy technician experience in preparing IV's.
