Location: West HospitalMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Orders, packages, prepares, and labels medications for dispensing by the pharmacist.
Performs aseptic compounding of hazardous and non-hazardous parenteral admixtures as well as hazardous and non-hazardous non-sterile compounding.
Performs stocking and cleaning of automated dispensing devices.
Completes duties of a pharmacist under supervision.
Performs medication history interviews and compiles complete, updated medication lists for patients.
Works collaboratively with interdisciplinary team to maximize patient outcomes.
Counsels patients on prescription and over-the-counter medications and devices.
Assists in interpreting drug levels and performing pharmacokinetic monitoring .
Finds, evaluates, and provides drug information to health care providers to answer drug information questions.
Performs audits for the pharmacist.
Prepares reports for the pharmacist.
Completes quality improvement projects.
Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of the pharmacy.
Completes other duties as assigned by the pharmacist.
Provides patient care and education according to the patient population served.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Admitted to an accredited school or college of pharmacy required.
Nebraska pharmacy intern license OR upon employment, if employee does NOT have pharmacy intern license, then registration with the State of Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services as a pharmacy technician required with a pharmacy intern license obtained within 180 calendar days of employment required.
BLS certified within 90 days of transfer or hire required.

A Brief Overview

Job Description
1. Review and prepare medications to be dispensed for Pharmacist approval.
Ensures correct selection of dosage, form, strength and quantity of medications for dispensing to the automated dispensing cabinet (Pyxis) or for use in compounding medications.
Prepares unit dose medications with bar code labels for the automated dispensing cabinet (Pyxis).
Labels medication according to regulatory guidelines with all appropriate information prior to pharmacist verification.
Prepares intravenous (IV) medications for inpatient and outpatient use by using sterile aseptic technique as described by USP guidelines.
Mixes pharmaceutical preparations, fills bottles with prescribed tablets and capsules, and creates labels for bottles.\
2. Maintains appropriate medication stock levels based on patient care needs for the pharmacy and the patient care areas including determination of appropriate levels and ordering of products.
Orders supplies and medications through the pharmacy wholesaler and other suppliers as deemed necessary.
Monitors drugs closely to evaluate and establish appropriate stock levels.
Restocks supplies and medications in the pharmacy
Restocks medications in all Pyxis units and other areas as approved ]Delivers medications to ancillary departments upon request
Monitors pharmaceutical inventory within the pharmacy and other areas
Keeps the formulary up to date with the current stock and keeps it available for use.
Monitors medication outdates in the pharmacy department, pyxis stations, and crash carts throughout the facility.
3.Triages questions in the form of customer service.
Demonstrates excellent customer service and a pleasant demeanor during all communication with patients or health care professionals.
Demonstrates ability to determine the level of expertise required to address the patient/health provider need to transfer/refer them to the desired individual.
Consults with pharmacist on medication questions and relays information to patients and/or providers when appropriate.
4. Performs and maintains documentation.
Documents all unit dose preparations
Documents all compounded preparations according to USP guidelines
Documents all medications dispensed to the automated dispensing cabinet (Pyxis)
Maintains and stores all records in the pharmacy for the appropriate amount of time according to the Iowa State Board of Pharmacy and Drug Enforcement Agency regulations
Handles all storage of CIII-CV records in accordance with the law
Handles all storage of T3 statements in accordance with FDA regulations
Handles all storage of records and invoices
Files department records.
5. Provides administrative support for the Pharmacy department.
Initiates phones calls, receives/screens/routes incoming visitors/calls.
Schedules appointments for drug representatives.
Schedules appointments for anticoagulation clinic patients
Cleans equipment according to prescribed methods.
Maintain and audit billed transactions for inpatient and outpatient medications
Collect pharmacy charge sheets from ancillary departments
Input charges for medications from ancillary departments
Maintains NDC Crosswalk on Macrohelix for the 340B Program
Audits patient visits on Macrohelix for the 340B Program
6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Nebraska Medicine is now taking applications for a talented individual to join us as a Nebraska Medicine Pharmacy is recruiting 1 Full-Time Pharmacist for the Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Team at the Nebraska Medical Center campus. This position will be dedicated to emergency medicine overnights at the Nebraska Medical Center campus. Candidates are preferred to have a PGY2 in Emergency Medicine Pharmacy or 5 years of emergency pharmacy experience. Eligibility and successful achievement of Board Certification in Emergency Medicine Pharmacy is expected when the exam becomes available in Summer of 2022.

Provide the highest quality patient care. Supervise pharmacy services in assigned patient care area and ensure all medication related patient and care provider needs are met. Required Qualifications:
Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program OR possess a Bachelor or Master of pharmacy degree with 10 years of experience required.
Licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the State of Nebraska or jurisdiction in which pharmacy practice is conducted required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Preferred Qualifications:
American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited postgraduate year one residency preferred.
Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties (BPS) certification as deemed appropriate and relevant to practice preferred.
