PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Procures and distributes drug orders per physician request, pharmacist request or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols, and within specified timeframe. 2. Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies, procedures and protocols and within specific timeframe. 3. Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department. 4. Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department. 5. Participate in improvement activities that affect the pharmacy inventory and cost. 6. Maintains competency required for current job title/position. 7. Prepares prescriptions 8. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. 9. Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified times. 10. Ability to work cooperatively with pharmacy staff. 11. Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. 12. Ability to set priorities and solve problems. 13. Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members. 14. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). 15. Ability to interact and assist the public (customers, patients) 16. Process insurance claims 17. Receive prescriptions and check their validity 18. Select appropriate medicine and measuring dosages to fill prescriptions 19. Keeps pharmacy areas and equipment clean, neat, and well organized. 20. Completes and documents inspections of all assigned medication storage areas at least monthly; identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs. 21. Answers the telephone, identifying self and department; directs calls to appropriate personnel; and answers requests at the window. 22. Attends pharmacy staff meetings 23. Attends orientation, education, and training programs 24. Completes all competence/skills assessment requirements. 25. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. 26. Is punctual and dependable; reports to work as scheduled; fulfills on-call obligations per prearranged schedule; absenteeism and tardiness are within policy guidelines. 27. Maintains a neat, professional, well-groomed appearance; observes pharmacy dress code; and wears identification badge at all times. 28. Performs work within specified time frames; adapts positively to frequent interruptions and changes in workload and/or work schedule. 29. Works cooperatively with all staff members; voices concerns and suggestions to appropriate persons in a positive manner. 30. Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, visitor, and employee information; complies with the HIPAA Privacy Rule standards. 31. Adheres to health -system and departmental policies and procedures; complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, medication-use safety, security, fire safety, and infection control; and complies with all applicable federal/state/local laws, rules, and regulations. 32. Performance demonstrates efforts to improve patient satisfaction, lower costs, improve quality and promote safety. 33. Understands and meets customers' needs and expectations; the patient and family members always come first. 34. Demonstrates the ability to address problems in a group setting using tools and techniques for identification and resolution of problems. 35. Demonstrates the values and behaviors of the organization. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS WITHOUT ACCOMMODATIONS 1. Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of a computer keyboard). 2. May require lifting and carrying light loads (e.g., boxes, equipment) and stooping or kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers). 3. Physical strength to perform the following lifting tasks: • Floor to waist - 30 pounds • 14” to waist - 40 pounds • Waist to shoulder - 20 pounds • Shoulder to overhead - 20 pounds • Carry 30 pounds for 30 feet • Push 40 pounds/force for 15 feet • Pull 40 pounds/force for 15 feet 4. Walking or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) often necessary. 5. Must be able to physically operate the equipment used in the job. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP Reports to the Director of Specialty Pharmacy. Functional supervision may be exercised by the Pharmacists and Lead Pharmacy Technician as assigned by the managers. Qualifications EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 1. High School diploma or equivalent. 2. Current pharmacy technician certification, required with 2 years of receiving State of Illinois Pharmacy Technician License. 3. State of Illinois Pharmacy Technician License OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS Potential for exposure to hazardous and toxic substances (including chemotherapeutic, cytotoxic drugs and cleaning solutions). Potential for sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp items. Potential for musculoskeletal injuries if proper lifting and carrying techniques are not used. Potential for exposure to infectious patients or materials negligible.
