Under the direction of a staff pharmacist and/or pharmacy leadership team, follow established policies and procedures to perform a variety of highly advanced technical and clerical support tasks that are vital to the operation of the pharmacy department. Tasks include, but are not limited to, preparation and distribution of unit dose medications, compounded sterile and non-sterile products, outpatient prescriptions, stock orders, and the operation and maintenance of pharmacy and area-specific technologies. Tasks may also include responsibilities of technical training and participation in departmental projects. This requires successful experience and performance as a pharmacy technician III. These tasks are designed to assist the pharmacist in the preparation and delivery of pharmaceutical supplies and medications in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and other regulatory agencies as applicable. Staffing and Competency + Perform medication deliveries and distribute medications to patient care areas employing barcode scanning. + Perform all required pharmaceutical dosage calculations necessary to prepare extemporaneous dosage forms as applicable under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. + Return unused medications employing barcode scanning and perform medication expiration date checking as assigned. + Fill medication requisitions and type labels for ambulatory and discharge prescriptions for all applicable patient care areas. + Manage inventory in all pharmacy areas and automated dispensing cabinets (ADC) and charge stock orders, ADC shrinkage, and patient and clinic requisitions. + Provide information and triage phone calls to the appropriate individual within the pharmacy department when answering the phone. + Carry out duties and responsibilities as assigned by staff pharmacists or pharmacy leadership. + Maintain clean and organized work areas. + May prepare compounded sterile products using principles of aseptic technique, distribute and transport controlled substances under the appropriate state of control, or maintain code cart inventory per policies and procedures as applicable. Brief Unit Description: Inpatient Hospital Pharmacy. 3. Years of Experience Required: 1-2 years. 4. Skill Sets Required: Previous hospital-related experience, formal training, or certification from a pharmacy technician training program desired 1-2 years. A) Retrieves medications from central pharmacy and fills automated dispensing cabinets accurately and safely. B) Perform intermediate mathematical calculations associated with preparing non-sterile, extemporaneously manufactured pharmaceutical products and other medication doses. C) Follow all applicable state and federal controlled substance regulations. D) Continuously improve skills necessary of area-specific technology, including, but not limited to, robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information system. E) Read, interpret, and follow complex verbal and written instructions to prepare medications (IV compounds) in a sterile environment in an accurate manner. 5. Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent. 6. EMR (Charting System) & Equipment Used: Epic, Omnicell. 7. Rotating Shifts Required: Yes. 8. Certification Required: Yes Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician registration and National Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT or ExCPT).

Stocks, fills, and distributes patient medication orders under the supervision by a registered pharmacist following established policies and procedures. Performs sterile compounding. Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
