Essential Functions

* Obtains supplies, prepares and labels drug orders under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Calculates and compounds aliquot doses.
* Distributes and/or transports medications to appropriate patient care areas in a timely manner and under a pharmacist's supervision.
* Makes beneficial recommendations for improvements in procedures, guidelines and continuing education training.
* Monitors inventory levels, stocks shelve, maintains order and cleanliness in assigned areas and maintains all required records.
* Receives and/or initiates verbal medication orders if authorized to do so by his/her supervising pharmacist.
* Serves as a good steward of the institution's resources, including time on the job.
* Provides training and participates in the in servicing of departmental employees and students.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

* Education - Completion of a South Carolina Board of Pharmacy approved technician course OR current enrollment or letter of acceptance in a professional academic pharmacy program at an accredited university

Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy technicians III work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist. In addition to Pharmacy Technician II duties, Tech IIIs are responsible for additional more complex duties. Technician III receive and scan medication deliveries daily, manage IV Compounding and IV Room Cleaning exercises on daily, weekly and monthly schedules. They restock and manage OR and Crash Cart inspections as needed. Tech IIIs may also be given more specific duties in inventory management and IV Room Duties than Tech IIs based on job performance and strengths.
Essential Functions:
Receive and scan medication deliveries daily.
Manage IV Compounding and Iv Room Cleaning exercises on daily, weekly and monthly schedules.
Restock and manage OR and Crash Cart inspections as needed.
Refills and maintains automated dispensing systems.
Prepares orders and maintains inventory for the pharmacy department.
Repackages bulk medications.
Assists pharmacist in filling medication orders.
Preparing medications and supplies for dispensing, including compounding oral solutions and topical preparations.
Delivers medications to patient care areas and retrieves pharmacy related items.
Accurately restocks automated dispensing cabinets according to inventory levels.
Charges and credits patient profiles for medications used or returned to the pharmacy.
Assists with inventory management by stocking fluids and medications on shelves.
Inspects assigned pharmacy sections and/or nursing units or operating rooms monthly.
Answers phone calls and handles questions that do not require pharmacist expertise or judgment and routes calls to the appropriate party as necessary.

Managing movement of Tasks identified on the Pharmacy Learning Board to completion when assigned.

Organizing Staff Improvement Projects with work assignments.
Oversee monthly staffing schedules if assigned.
Managing Patient's Own Med Handling and Waste Process.
Managing Pharmaceutical Hazardous Disposal System to meet state and federal requirements.
Attending meetings when assigned to represent pharmacy services for operations.
Working with IT Department to manage Pharmacy Inventory in MediTech for updates and changes under the guidance of a pharmacist.
Any other special assignments needed for proper Pharmacy Operations success within the scope of practice for a Pharmacy Technician III.

Pharmacy services will include dispensing medications, assisting CHC personnel and patients with drug information and identification, developing and sustaining productive patient relationships, evaluating and resolving potential drug therapy problems identified through any and all available resources, patient counseling, prescription verification, adherence to state and federal pharmacy laws, precepting students and interns, supervision of pharmacy technicians while on-duty, and participation in projects as assigned.
CHC manages patient care using a team-based approach in our interactions with patients and other healthcare personnel.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Knowledge of Board of Pharmacy regulations
Knowledge of 340B program
Ability to work with primary care providers to maximize cost effective prescribing patterns, improve clinical processes, and achieve clinical standards across the population of patients served by CHC
Proficiency in computers, including ability to learn Electronic Medical Records and pharmacy software; also use phones, fax machines, printers, scanner, and copiers
Ability to carry out supervisory responsibility in accordance with the organization's policies and local, state, and federal laws
Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment with frequent interruptions
Clinically competent
Knowledge and experience of ordering, inventory, and cost management activities
Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with all levels of staff and patients
Ability to keep customer service and the mission of the organization in mind when interacting with clients, co-workers, and others, promoting a positive image for CHC, and fostering an ethical work environment
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with medical information and conform to HIPAA regulations
Must possess strong problem-solving skills and effective time management skills
Ability to understand and respond effectively with sensitivity to special populations served by CHC. Special populations include, but are not limited to, those defined by race, ethnicity, language, age, sex, sexual orientation, economic standing, disability status, migrant, homelessness, seasonal workers, the uninsured, and patients with low health literacy.
Assign, coordinate, and oversee pharmacy technicians' tasks
Ensure that all pharmacy technicians are working in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations as well as CHC policies
Review prescriptions for accuracy, appropriate dosage, directions, drug interactions, and contact the provider if questions arise
Counsel patients on drug usage, storage, side effects and drug interactions in accordance with federal and state pharmacy laws
Assess allergy concerns and communicate to patients and prescribers
Process and dispense prescriptions in a timely and efficient manner
Bill Third Parties and handle rejections
Maintain accurate records of controlled substances
Remove outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory
Process recalls according to policy and procedures
Oversee daily ordering of medications
Establish and maintain good working relationships with staff, physicians, and other health care professionals
Keep pharmacy secured
Answer and make patient and prescriber calls
Make sure Home/Site Delivery patients receive medications in a timely manner
Communicate with the Chief Pharmacy Officer any issues within the pharmacy
Assist with training of pharmacy staff
Assist Chief Pharmacy Officer in other duties as assigned

Education:
Current licensure by South Carolina State Board of Pharmacy
PharmD from accredited institution preferred
Work Experience:
At least two years of retails or community health pharmacy experience preferred
Licensure and Certification:
Possession of current South Carolina State Board of Pharmacy license
