Under the direction of a staff pharmacist and/or pharmacy leadership team, follow established policies and procedures to perform a variety of highly advanced technical and clerical support tasks that are vital to the operation of the pharmacy department. Tasks include, but are not limited to, preparation and distribution of unit dose medications, compounded sterile and non-sterile products, outpatient prescriptions, stock orders, and the operation and maintenance of pharmacy and area-specific technologies. Tasks may also include responsibilities of technical training and participation in departmental projects. This requires successful experience and performance as a pharmacy technician III.
These tasks are designed to assist the pharmacist in the preparation and delivery of pharmaceutical supplies and medications in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and other regulatory agencies as applicable. Most tasks require the review and authorization of a licensed pharmacist.
Staffing assignments will include roles throughout central pharmacy and designated specialized pharmacy areas.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership
Train new or existing staff members.
Provide direction and guidance to pharmacy staff in following policy and procedure while promoting professional behaviors and attitudes.
Provide feedback to pharmacy leadership about efficiency of workflow process and general staff performance.
Lead departmental quality improvement or group research projects as assigned.
Oversee drug distribution activities and process, including leading, troubleshooting, maintaining, and triaging activities and issues as appropriate.
Staffing and Competency
Perform medication deliveries and distribute medications to patient care areas employing barcode scanning.
Perform all required pharmaceutical dosage calculations necessary to prepare extemporaneous dosage forms as applicable under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
Return unused medications employing barcode scanning and perform medication expiration date checking as assigned.
Fill medication requisitions and type labels for ambulatory and discharge prescriptions for all applicable patient care areas.
Manage inventory in all pharmacy areas and automated dispensing cabinets (ADC) and charge stock orders, ADC shrinkage, and patient and clinic requisitions.
Provide information and triage phone calls to the appropriate individual within the pharmacy department when answering the phone.
Carry out duties and responsibilities as assigned by staff pharmacists or pharmacy leadership.
Maintain clean and organized work areas.
May prepare compounded sterile products using principles of aseptic technique, distribute and transport controlled substances under the appropriate state of control, or maintain code cart inventory per policies and procedures as applicable.
Technology
Utilize area-specific technology, including, but not limited to, robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information systems.
Practice preventative maintenance of area-specific technology, including, but not limited to, robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information systems.
Troubleshoot aforementioned technology failures to minimize operational downtime and maximize uptime.
Assist in the implementation of new area-specific technology as mentioned above.
Follow processes for obtaining manufacturer service if needed for repairs.
Quality and Safety
Follow institutional and departmental policies and procedures.
Demonstrate accountability and ownership of job responsibilities.
Exhibit and promote professional behaviors and attitudes related to communication, punctuality, workplace attire, personal internet or phone use, and teamwork.
Carry out departmental and institutional patient safety initiatives.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.

Job Summary
The Radiopharmacist is a senior member of the professional staff working in the BWH - BICOR facility. The purpose of BICOR is to fulfill the need for radiotracers for researchers and clinicians. Under the supervision of BICOR administration and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures the Radiopharmacist has several roles ranging from overseeing general lab maintenance and inventory control to the support of daily compounding and manufacturing.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for operating the Radiopharmacy independently and staffing BICOR manufacturing units during operating hours as needed. Shifts and responsibilities are subject to change according to clinical, research, and staffing needs
- Oversees and performs SPECT radiopharmaceutical preparation, quality control, and dispensing
- Performs PET compounding, manufacturing, quality control, and distribution
- Compares handwritten results documented on manufacturing and compounding batch records with product specifications. Releases product when handwritten results are within specifications
- Oversees inventory management systems for SPECT radiopharmaceuticals and other materials necessary to meet dispensing needs
- Completes and/or oversees maintenance and system suitability for equipment used daily and verifies or records results
- Verifies all cleanroom parameters required for daily operation
- Responsible for cleanliness of facility in accordance with the documented cleaning schedules
- Notifies the Engineering Department of any Out of Specification results within cleanrooms and associated equipment
- Performs or ensures that radiation wipes and surveys onshipping containers, supplies, incoming packages, and workspaces are completed
- Works with the Quality Systems Administration team to monitor overall integrity of the cGMP manufacturing process
- Assists in the preparation of documentation for ANDA, IND and RDRC regulatory reviews
- Provides training and direction to staff as needed
- Identifies and reports to management any quality or compliance concerns and takes immediate corrective action as required
- Assists with the instruction of students (pharmacy and nuclear medicine technologists) and medical residents on practical aspects of radiopharmaceutical production, quality control and radiation safety

Qualifications

Shift/Schedule
Rotating schedule between day shift (7:00 am - 3:30 pm) and 2 weeks of overnight (12:30 am - 7:30 am but will need to arrive before 12:30 to be prepared for staff when they arrive).
Weekends every 7 weeks on rotating basis. Schedule is typically Saturday
1:00 am - 9:00 am and Sunday 1:00 am - 4:30 am.
Every 4th holiday with major holidays equitably split with other three pharmacists typically 12:30 am - 5:00 am

Responsibilities
Provides pharmaceutical care to patients as a staff pharmacist, including compounding of nuclear medications, testing for quality through chromatography, and directing distribution of medication using a team of drivers.
Assesses and maintains pharmacy inventory and executes necessary orders, including reviews, to maintain optimal supply and ongoing availability of drugs, identifying and procuring alternative drugs to mitigate risks, when necessary.

Job Summary
Under direction of the Senior Operations Manager, PET Production and Cyclotron, the nuclear pharmacist provides a variety of services, ensuring compliance in the procurement, preparation, compounding, manufacturing, quality control testing, dispensing, distribution, and monitoring of radiopharmaceuticals. The nuclear pharmacist also must provide support for the safe and efficient production and use of radioactive drugs for research and clinical diagnostic use at MGH. In addition, the nuclear pharmacist provides consultation regarding all aspects of the use of radiopharmaceuticals and non-radioactive adjunct imaging medications, as well as health and safety issues in patient care.
Duties and Responsibilities for Nuclear Pharmacists in the MGH PET Nuclear Pharmacy include but are not limited to:
1. Assumes overall responsibility for quality oversight of the FDA regulated, cGMP PET manufacturing facility and PET nuclear pharmacy for the manufacturing, compounding, quality control testing, dispensing and packaging of PET radiopharmaceuticals.
2. Serves in a quality assurance (QA) role to ensure compliance with all departmental procedures, FDA guidance and regulatory filings.
3. Reviews and releases batches of PET radiopharmaceuticals manufactured under 21 CFR 212, cGMP PET drug manufacturing regulations.
4. Ensures compliance with all state, federal, and local regulations concerning these activities.
5. Maintains inventory and ensures suitability of all raw materials and components used in the production of PET radiopharmaceuticals
6. Performs set up, operation, and documentation of computer controlled automated synthetic devices dedicated to the production of PET radiopharmaceuticals.
7. Performs complex analytical testing on manufactured and/or compounded radiopharmaceutical including, thin layer chromatography (TLC), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), radionuclide identity and purity testing with high purity germanium solid state detectors, sterility and pyrogen testing.
8. Works with PET radiochemistry staff to troubleshoot radiopharmaceutical production and optimize yields.
9. Works with cyclotron facility staff to ensure quality and availability of PET radionuclides for manufacturing and compounding of PET radiopharmaceuticals.
10. Maintains detailed records of operation and validation of all processes taking place in the nuclear pharmacy and PET production facility.
11. Ensures that all shipments of radioactive material meet all regulatory requirements.
12. Works with MGH radiation safety staff to ensure that all tasks are performed in the PET nuclear pharmacy are in compliance with regulatory and prudent radiation safety principles.
