Working as an Intern allows the student to build on experiences from pharmacy school and allow our department to benefit from all that the students have to offer. Our interns are trained in the technician roles to work in the carousel, Omnicell, IV room, and med history role. The interns gain experience completing projects for the department which range from cost-saving analysis, quality-improvement projects for our department, and performing regulatory required data collections. We require a 2-year commitment and licensure in Indiana and Kentucky. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Job Duties include the following, other duties may be assigned: * PROVIDES DRUG DISTRIBUTION * Uses drug orders/prescriptions/Epic System labels. Collects and labels medications to be checked by Pharmacist for inpatient and outpatient distribution. Delivers floorstock and patient medications by hand, by tube or by daily cart exchange. Places medication in stock and returns discontinued medications to stock if appropriate. Replenishes emergency drug boxes and Omnicell machines. * COMPOUNDS INTRAVENOUS SOLUTIONS * Compounds sterile intravenous solutions to be checked by Pharmacist prior to distribution. These solutions include large volume parenterals, piggybacks, parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy and cardioplegia solutions prepared aseptically in a laminar flow hood. * PACKAGES MEDICATIONS IN UNIT DOSE PACKAGING * Packages individual doses of liquid and solid medications using variety of equipment and the unit dose packaging machine. * OPERATES DEPARTMENTAL EQUIPMENT * Operates a variety of equipment in the department including but not limited to the Epic System, Printers, Medication Transfer Carts, Unit Dose Packaging Machine, Omnicell machines, Pharmacy Carousel, and Baxa Repeater Pump. * MAINTAINS DEPARTMENTAL SYSTEMS AND RECORDS * Maintains appropriate inventory levels within established departmental guidelines. Maintains controlled substance system in accordance with policy and procedure. * COMPLETE ADMISSION MEDICATION HISTORY * Complete the patient's home medication list in Epic. * COMPLIES WITH STANDARDS OF EMPLOYEE CONDUCT * All employees must comply with standards of employee conduct.
