DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Compounding Pharmacy Technician: Assists the Pharmacist in providing medication and pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physician, and other hospital personnel. Doses medications under the supervision of a pharmacist. Maintains inventory of medications and supplies, and reorders them accordingly. Restocks and maintains automated dispensing machines and anesthesia machines. Processes records of medications dispensed to patients or customers, computes charges, and enters them into the computer system. Prepares, evaluates, and interprets medication usage, including narcotic usage, into applicable reports. Receives and stores incoming deliveries of medication and supplies in appropriate storage conditions. Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement and CQI activities. Assists the Pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care for patients ranging in age from newborn to the elderly. Is able to identify and understand that there are dosage variations between newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and knows to consult with the Pharmacist if any doubts or questions arise. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety, and reduces the likelihood of medical and healthcare errors. Maintains the Pharmacy Department in a clean and orderly manner. Performs other pharmacy related duties as requested or required. Applies common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form. Deals with problems involving several variables in particular situations. Recognizes inappropriate dosing based on available dosage forms for various age groups. Completes annual education requirements. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Coordinates monthly financial reporting and analysis for pharmacy for the Director of Pharmacy. Participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement and initiatives of Pharmacy in the pharmacy setting. Performs other duties as asked or assigned. 340B Duties: Management of the Federal 340B Pharmacy program in pharmacy setting. Acting as the liaison between administration and pharmacy and clinic staff to ensure 340B program integrity. Implements Health West policies and procedures in accordance with program requirements as well as provides ongoing 340B training for staff. Attends 340B trainings and monitors for updates in program requirements. Strives to improve the quality, efficiency, profitability, consistency, and compliance at Health West. Tracks and monitors utilization, savings, problem areas, and quality discrepancies within the pharmacy. Identifies root causes of adverse trends/issues and assesses options. Makes recommendations and works with Director of Pharmacy to implement solutions. Provides recommendations as needed. Maintains awareness of 340B regulatory guidance, policy/rule issues and changes, and potential program changes to assure a compliant program across Health West. Communicates relevant information to Pharmacy Manager and Director. Education and Experience: * PharmD or bachelor's degree in pharmacy. * Current State license in good standing to practice as a registered pharmacist in the state. * Familiarity with pharmacy software systems and operations, basic word processing, and computer skills. * Assuming other candidate aspects are satisfactory, preference will be given to those with prior pharmacy experience and/or prior management experience. * Assuming other candidate aspects are satisfactory, preference will be given to those who have prior experience with the 340B program. * 340B Apexus ACE Certification preferred (340B University basics must be completed within first 12 months of employment).
