Basic Qualifications
BS in Pharmacy or Pharmacist Degree from an accredited educational institution.

APPE Summary:
Pharmacists participate in pharmacy-run clinics: Anticoagulation, Hepatitis C, and Spirometry. Each year 5-10 senior pharmacy student's complete clerkship rotations at our site. Drug information resources and computer support are readily available. Rotation experiences will vary to student preferences. Pharmacy student experiences may include family medicine, diabetes, psychiatry, public health nursing, microbiology lab, and administration. Rapid City (pop. 70,000) is located in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota, close to numerous recreational opportunities and vacation destinations including Mount Rushmore, Badlands, Custer State Park.

Job Description
Essential Functions
Responsible for monitoring and/or cleaning the sterile compounding area.
Responsible for ensuring competency of all aspects of staff (both technicians and pharmacists) performing sterile compounding including, but not limited to cleaning, garbing, testing, training and proper compounding procedure.
Works collaboratively with pharmacists to ensure compliance of USP 797 and USP 800 standards.
Is able to properly utilize all equipment and acts as a resource for equipment upgrades or changes.
Maintain and monitor proper documentation of compounding, cleaning, testing, and certification of equipment and compounding areas.
Communicates appropriately with all department members.
Acts as a leader to enforce proper procedure.
All other duties as assigned.
Additional Essential Functions in Hospital Environment
Must perform all essential functions of a Tech-Check-Tech technician and maintain TCT status in applicable areas.
Creates and sends an order to the wholesaler and receives and restocks such order, as applicable to site. Monitors medication inventory to assure appropriate levels are maintained.
Additional Essential Functions in Home+ Environment
Complete training and follow procedures for checking the work of another technician in providing IV supplies to patients and/or facilities.
Function as a backup to the Pharmacy Specialist when needed.
Take lead role in QAPI projects pertaining to the medication and compounding area.
Responsible for medication and supply inventory management.

Job Description
Essential Functions:
Create an environment where responsiveness to patient and customer needs is a personal priority. Interact with staff, patients and the public in a courteous and respectful manner using appropriate verbal or written skills.
Restock unit dose medications, liquids and injectables; accurately fill controlled substances and file paperwork; receive orders, unpack supplies, assure items are bar coded and scannable, and place inventory into the appropriate location when relevant to hospital site.
Accurately pick medications from appropriate automated technology for replacement into Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADC) or distribution to another campus. Sort and restock/waste returned medications; restock code carts, emergency boxes, and ADCs; deliver medications in a timely manner; answer phones professionally and transfer calls appropriately.
Act as a positive member of the team. Assist in orienting new personnel; use time wisely; communicate pertinent information; work effectively with pharmacists, technicians and other hospital caregivers; work independently without direct supervision; assist other staff and exhibit an approachable, interactive demeanor.
Process and accurately dispose of all waste materials, including all levels of hazardous waste. Knowledgeable of appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and necessary action when receiving or manipulating hazardous medications or during hazardous spills.
Maintain ability to effectively navigate computer software, troubleshoot and report problems to prevent repetitive issues in the future.
Pass and maintain sterile compounding competencies and fingertip testing. Utilize proper sterile technique while performing sterile compounding preparation. Follow all deactivation, decontamination, cleaning and disinfecting procedures required by USP .
Participate in department committees as assigned.
