POSITION OVERVIEW The Pharmacy Technician performs pharmacy-related functions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to inventory, prepare, mix, and deliver investigational medications for use in clinical trials. All duties and responsibilities shall be performed in compliance with all current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), rules and regulations. RESPONSIBILITIES Prepare sterile compounded investigational medications for use in accordance with USP standards, including chapters 795 and 797 for patients participating in clinical trials. Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proper operation and maintenance of compounding equipment (Class II Biological Safety Cabinet) Cleans and maintain pharmacy shelves and work areas as required. Document and maintain the drug inventory through inventory control practices. Order, receive, store, dispense, compound, dispose and maintain inventory of pharmacy supplies. Ensure the security of all drug and pharmacy supplies. Maintain an orderly, clean environment including cleanliness of pharmacy stock and supplies. Enter data into the computer system, recording delivery, changes in inventory, expired drug, returned drug, and other items as needed. Maintain the temperature monitoring system for ambient storage cabinets, refrigerators, and freezers. Separate expired drug from stock and prepare it for return or destruction, Perform general clerical duties. Perform other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Familiarity with pharmacy practice settings and proper drug handling and storage practices. Full Job Description Works under the supervision of a pharmacist to perform duties associated with medication management system under the pharmacy intern scope of practice and cross functions as pharmacy technician as needed. Detailed responsibilities: Provides patients and healthcare providers with education and drug information under pharmacist supervision. Job Description The Compounding Technician is responsible for staging and preparing all components for drug production in a clean-room environment. Technicians may also engage in compounding low to high-risk sterile products and filling patient orders, as authorized and under the supervision of the compounding pharmacist. Job Activities and Responsibilities: The responsibilities listed below are subject to change. The compounding technician shall have knowledge of and follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures. Specifically noting the use of hormones and other potentially hazardous chemicals are used in non-sterile compounding. Non-sterile compounding may include but is not limited to the compounding of capsules, liquids, topical medications, nasal preparations, suppositories, troches, or tablet triturates. Compounding may include sterile to sterile transfers, packaging, and labeling of one or more drugs. Position requires close attention to detail. Standards for potency, quality, purity, integrity, sterility, and endotoxin content must be consistently met. Sterile compounding includes but is not limited to injections, ophthalmic and inhalation solutions. Position requires close attention to detail. Standards for accuracy and potency shall be consistently met. Compounding technician shall compound medication, fill and label prescriptions and pre-package bulk compounded medications in anticipation of prescription orders. Compounding technician shall also monitor inventory levels for re-order of low inventory or expiring or expired chemicals or compounds, receive new inventory, maintain MSDS and Certificates of Analysis and perform daily, weekly and monthly cleaning using appropriate disinfectants and techniques. When working with hazardous or non-hazardous chemicals, the Compounding technician shall be familiar with the location of MSDS and review, as needed. Environmental monitoring and validation testing shall be performed according to policies and procedures. Support daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of the environment with appropriate disinfectants and techniques. Initial and ongoing competency evaluation must be successfully completed as required in the policies and procedures Technicians work under the supervision of a pharmacist. Technicians shall work under the supervision of a pharmacist. Other duties, responsibilities and qualifications may be required and/or assigned as necessary.
