Position Summary: The Finishing Inspector is responsible for the inspection and editing of converted press product using a slitter / rewinder, finishing it into the correct format as dictated by customer specifications. The Finishing Inspector is responsible for meeting customer requirements while conforming to company standards for quality and job parameters. Essential Functions: Inspects printed products to assess and evaluate quality conformance to specifications. Discards or rejects defective product that does not conform to requirements for print quality or product functionality. Operates finishing equipment at required speed to ensure proper slitting, alignment, and roll profile. Examines job orders to determine details such as finished quantities, production times, packaging specifications, and shipping requirements. Notifies supervisors and other personnel of production problems, and assist in identifying and correcting these problems. Loads, positions, and adjusts master press rolls on holding fixtures or in equipment loading and feeding mechanisms. Moves printed materials using lifts and transports them to storage or finishing areas. Pushes buttons or moves controls and levers to start and control finishing equipment. Monitors finishing equipment in order to maintain specified operating levels and to detect malfunctions; make any necessary adjustments. Maintains, or adjusts equipment using proper preventive maintenance techniques. Records finishing data specific to product quantities, copy position, packaging, and shipping requirements using the appropriate quality control forms. Responsible for verifying critical quality conformance to proper line clearance and product segregation processes. Ensures the work conducted within the production area is performed in a safe and efficient manner. Any unsafe work conditions are addressed immediately. Ensures adherence to all quality control processes and procedures and actively supports the company's internal audit program. Maintains daily time and materials usage reports by entering information into the computer print management system. Skills and Experience Required: Individual must be able to monitor processes, materials and equipment. Individual must be able to work independently with minimal guidance required. This implies good time management, planning/organization, and decision-making skills. Individual must be able to interact effectively with a wide variety of people, maintaining flexibility, objectivity and a capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. This function is critical to increasing production uptime and reducing downtime by assisting with live jobs in various work centers, maintaining supplies and consumables, and ensuring a sanitary and organized work environment in the plant. Essential Functions: Assisting with jobs at press: Loading stock on the press unwinds. This includes the press, butt splicer, and laminate tower. Install/Remove pre mounted plates in press. Install/Remove dies and other tooling in press. Assist in maintaining supply levels: Notify warehouse when stock is needed at press and when materials need to be returned to warehouse. Notify ink technician when inks are needed at press and to be returned to ink department. Maintain all consumable supplies at press. Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the facility by: Cleaning, reassembling, and returning ink pans, aniloxes, doctor blade chambers, etc. to the presses. Returning stock and tools to designate return areas. Empty all trash receptacles. Cleaning of the shop floor, printing presses, rewind machines, and any other components inside or outside Phenix as needed. Skills and Experience Required: Assist in select finishing related tasks as need: assisting in off line finishing process (i.e. shrink wrapping, kitting and fan folding), boxing finished product from finishers into a box. Individual must be able to work independently with minimal guidance required. This implies good time management, planning/organization, and decision-making skills. Individual must be able to complete any reasonable request of management necessary to effectively operate the department/company. Individual must be able to interact effectively with supervisors and peers.     Ink Technician Reports to: Production Shift Supervisor FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Department: Production The Ink Technician is responsible for maintaining the proper flow of inks and compounds to the press as required for the job. This includes; all varieties of inks, adhesives, thinners, varnishes, topcoats, etc. The Ink Technician coordinates and controls the preventive maintenance and calibration of all equipment within the ink department. In acquiring, preparing and staging critical job components the Ink Technician's function is vital to insure the uninterrupted workflow of the production department. Essential Functions: Uses the production schedule to pre-stage color matched ink and compounds for press ready jobs to limit press downtime and maintain continuous operation of press work centers. Assists with color matching of jobs at press as needed. Maintains all consumable supplies for the ink department. This includes responsibility for: Inventory balance Inventory accuracy Inventory ordering Inventory receipts (raw material) Inventory costing to job Maintains a complete, controlled and secure database of all ink formulations. Maintains an inventory of inks that meet the specifications for proper pH and viscosity. Coordinates and conducts regularly scheduled preventive maintenance and calibration of all ink related equipment within the department. Maintains a neat, clean and well organized work area.
