Shortly after 1800, Thomas Builman built a tavern on Union Square, and later sold it to an Aibright, so that it was known for many years as Aibright’s tavern.
About 1802 the New Brunswick turnpike was built to Union Square.
The Lee House was built in 1811 for a store kept by John Mixsell.
The first resident of Phillipsburg to be converted to Methodism was Philip Reese, who was converted in 1824, while on a visit to his sister, who lived on the Susquehanna.
The first brick building in town was erected by Garret Cook in 1845.

The American Horse Shoe Company was established about 1895, and now employs one hundred and fifty hands.
