During the early years of my legal career, I was, among other things, an appellate judge’s law clerk, a clinical law professor and an Assistant US Attorney. I started in the media and entertainment industries in the early 1980’s, representing the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (“NCTA”) in connection with copyright and constitutional issues (e.g., Loretto v. Teleprompter Manhattan CATV Corp., 458 US 418 (1982); Cruz v. Ferre, 755 F2d. 1415 (11th Cir., 1985); NCTA v. Copyright Royalty Tribunal, 689 F2d. 1077 (DC Cir., 1982)).

Since returning to private practice almost 35 years ago, I have focused primarily, but not exclusively, on representing cable television production companies and networks in all facets of their business and legal affairs. In addition to networks and producers, my clients have included artists, musicians, performers, graphic designers, photographers, advertising agencies, publishers, Internet companies, software developers and website designers.

I have represented dozens of programming networks, ranging from start-ups to widely distributed, publicly traded companies and including foreign companies entering the U.S. market for the first time.

I also have provide business affairs and legal counsel to independent producers in connection with many successful television programs, including \'Fat Guys in the Woods,\' \'Willis Clan,\' \'Whale Wars,\' “Trading Spaces,” “Roller Jam,” “World Series of Poker” and “Elvis Presley’s Graceland.”

I have worked with clients in both traditional and new media (e.g., cable, satellite, Internet, and all forms of wire-line and wireless digital distribution), providing them with advice and counsel through all stages of the business lifecycle, from review and consultation on business plans, entity formation and structure, strategy and financing to ongoing operations.

Jeff Ross is a Chief Financial Officer at Philo and is based in San Francisco, California. He has worked as Chief Financial Officer at Velti, CFO and Senior Vice President at Sybase, and CFO at AVG Technologies. Jeff attended University of California - UC Berkeley until 1987.
