The primary role of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting issues, providing training, and recommending workflow improvements. Responsibilities * Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens accurately. * Record maintenance data and decontaminate equipment as necessary. * Update patient information efficiently. * Collect and store specimens following established procedures. * Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods such as urine or fecal, in a clear and courteous manner. * Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. * Understand and interpret physicians' orders completely. * Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately. * Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. * Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. * Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperatures. * Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, label accurately, and follow protocols to maintain the integrity of the specimen during transport. * Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. * Attend annual department trainings. * Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.
