Package specimens for transport Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Demonstrates the skill and competence necessary to perform the venipuncture and heelstick procedures: * Selects the best vein or site available for blood drawing. * Demonstrates skill with various types of needles and other collection equipment. * Follows correct "order of draw" for vacutainer tubes. * Follows procedures for the appropriate collection of blood cultures to avoid contamination of specimen. * Removes the tourniquet according to department policies and procedures. * Labels all samples in accordance with department policies and procedures. * Check the collection site prior to leaving the patient. 4. Follows all Infection Control guidelines throughout the venipuncture procedure. * Wears appropriate personal protective equipment as required. * Follows all patient precautions and procedures for isolation. * Discards all equipment (sharps, glove, etc.) as required. * Follow hospital Hand Hygiene policies and procedures between all procedures and patients. 5. Demonstrates knowledge of collection criteria: correct vacutainer tubes, volume, stability requirements and/or special handling. 6. Effectively teaches and trains all new employees, students, and other additional requests for teaching and training. Provides constructive feedback. 7. Job Responsibilities · Follows established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining samples from patients. · Properly and accurately identify all patients daily according to AHA's phlebotomy patient identification policy prior to facilitating proper collection. · Ensures that specimens are properly labeled, in the proper tube, and accompanied by a completed requisition, prior to transport. · Follows AHA's phlebotomy policy on transporting PHI. · Maintain and present a positive attitude and concern for patient and staff safety, quality patient care; consistently demonstrate these attributes in consideration of time-sensitive blood draw requirements. · Must understand and be knowledgeable of the resident rights, patient care, and patient's right to refuse. · Ability to obtain blood specimens from patients under a variety of patient conditions. · Works cooperatively with dispatch, payroll, laboratory, and courier departments. · Must possess knowledge of medical terminology as it relates to laboratory purposes. · Knowledge of required specimen preservation, adequate patient preparation and specimen procedures. · Must be able to work under minimal supervision and accurately maintain time sheet records. · Maintains all equipment in good working orders and reports problems immediately to supervisor. · When on duty, answers company issued mobile device promptly, checks-in and checks-out of client facilities always, and is ready and available to work. · Completes and timely submits written logs, time sheets, and other required records in a neat and accurate manner. · Must have a current and valid Driver's License and required Auto Insurance. · Must have a reliable vehicle in good working condition suitable to meet daily driving requirements. · Must maintain a good driving record. · Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks; take directions and conduct self in a professional manner always. Requirements Requirements · High school diploma or equivalent, required. · Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy work experience required. · Valid state-issued Driver License; must be at least 21 years old. · Clean driving record for last 5-years; own reliable transportation, must provide proof of required auto insurance coverage (100/300/100). · Clean criminal history, as required for positions with direct patient care; some states require additional background checks including fingerprinting. · Phlebotomy Certification from an accredited training school or equivalent, preferred. · Home Draws: Minimum of 3 years of phlebotomy work experience required; additional credentialing requirements must be successfully completed prior to working on our Home Draw team! · Must possess a passion for SAFETY and CUSTOMER SERVICE.
