Prioritize collection of specimens, including STAT, timed, routine and therapeutic drug-monitoring collections. Perform and result point of care testing on blood, urine, and respiratory specimens. Access, select, release and print interfaced orders from the electronic medical record system, resolving unusual or duplicative orders as needed. Travel to additional clinic locations in the Stormont Vail Laboratory system as needed. Follow all safety and infection prevention guidelines, both related to the care of the patient as well as to the employee. Assist with teaching, training, and mentoring phlebotomist interns and trainees. Collect specimens for legal blood alcohol, drug screens, and paternity tests; testify in regional court systems to explain collection procedure if subpoenaed. Maintain and monitor supply stock in the laboratory. Apply mathematics to determine safe removal volume for pediatric blood collections. Demonstrate and follow professional behavior and Phlebotomist Service Standards when interacting with patients and other members of the health care team. Travel to outside locations if requested.
