Disposes of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies. Disposes of contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies.
Completes requisitions accurately.
Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer. Requires attention to detail to maintain high level of accuracy. Communicate with clients to confirm handwritten orders, verify test(s) ordered, obtain accurate billing information, i.e. diagnosis codes, UPIN information, etc.
Researches test/client information utilizing lab computer system.
Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
Package specimens for transport. Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen. Demonstrates proficiency of proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens.
Maintains required records and documentation.
Maintains daily records and all appropriate PSC/IOP Phlebotomy logs.
Assist with compilation of monthly statistics and data.
Performs basic clerical duties, i.e. filing, faxing, and preparing mail. The person in this position is required to perform electronic data entry.

Essential Functions of the Role
Works as a team or independently with other phlebotomists and clinical support staff to ensure patients are processed in a timely manner and according to the organization's protocol and procedures. This would include:
Verification of the patient identity and ensure all orders match the lab orders from EMR before the procedure begins.
Ensures a high degree of service excellence is practiced with each patient.
Monitors patients before, during, and after the procedure for safety and prevention of fainting.
Completes blood draws as efficiently as possible. Collects specimens in the proper container based on test that was ordered and follow the proper order of draw.
Educate patient and family regarding the procedure.
Label all samples with at least two unique identifiers and processes the sample according to lab procedures.
Follows universal precautions to protect self and patients.
Stocks procedure rooms with supplies.
Manages CLIA Waived Point of Care Testing, including QC, proper specimen handling and processing according to manufacturer's instructions.
Takes responsibility for lab equipment cleaning, quality contract, and sterilization in accordance with OSHA and CLIA guidelines.
Promotes and believes in providing quality healthcare services and education to the community in a convenient and compassionate manner.
May perform other duties as assigned.

Reduces patient anxiety by providing a calm environment for patients before, during and after the collection process.
Disposes of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies. Disposes of contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies.
Completes requisitions accurately.
Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer. Requires attention to detail to maintain high level of accuracy. Communicate with clients to confirm handwritten orders, verify test(s) ordered, obtain accurate billing information, i.e. diagnosis codes, UPIN information, etc.
Researches test/client information utilizing lab computer system.
Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
Package specimens for transport. Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen. Demonstrates proficiency of proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens.
Maintains required records and documentation.
Maintains daily records and all appropriate PSC/IOP Phlebotomy logs.
Assist with compilation of monthly statistics and data.
Performs basic clerical duties, i.e. filing, faxing, and preparing mail. The person in this position is required to perform electronic data entry.
Approves time in attendance software by noon on the Monday following the end of the pay period. Submits accurate expense and travel logs Monday for the week prior or as directed by management.

Job Summary: The Phlebotomist Trainer will be primarily responsible for the education and training of new phlebotomists for inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy. In addition, this role will follow up and assist on training needs within the JPS labs and covers phlebotomy needs as appropriate when the lab/site is shorthanded or until a new employee can be trained. This role will work closely with the Phlebotomy Supervisor, the Client Services Supervisor and the Lab Quality Educator and Auditor to provide quality training for staff.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
* Ensures that new hires are thoroughly trained using the phlebotomy checklist and are familiar with their duties and assignments before releasing them from training.
* Verifies that all phlebotomists are consistently up to date on phlebotomy procedures.
* Works closely with the Supervisor to help with competency reviews on new hires and on existing phlebotomists as requested.
* Keeps the Supervisor informed of trainee progress, any employee issues for current status and annual evaluation purposes.
* Manages supply of training materials to ensure they are always available.
* Performs ad-hoc training sessions with seasoned phlebotomists and nursing on various shifts and locations when necessary to refresh on phlebotomy techniques, policies, procedures or to roll out new processes.
* Able to perform all other tasks as assigned, including inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy.
* Performs all duties of a phlebotomist as needed.
* Perform all other job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
* Must be a Certified Phlebotomist (CPT) through one of the following: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or American Medical Technologists; or National Healthcareer Association.
* 2 plus years working as a Certified Phlebotomist.
Preferred Qualifications:
* :Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification (BCLS).
