Required Education
• High school diploma or equivalent.

JOB SUMMARY:
Phlebotomist I performs daily phlebotomy activities of the Patient Service Center (PSC) or In-office Phlebotomy (IOP) accurately and on time. The person in this position interacts with the client, patients, and other PathGroup personnel in a professional and courteous manner and performs with confidence, both the forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing duties following established practices and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Greets customers appropriately. Treat all customers in a courteous manner.
Ensures all field phlebotomy and PSC specimens are collected accurately and on time.
Collects specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required. Reduces patient anxiety by providing a calm environment for patients before, during and after the collection process.
Disposes of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies. Disposes of contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies.
Completes requisitions accurately.
Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer. Requires attention to detail to maintain high level of accuracy. Communicate with clients to confirm handwritten orders, verify test(s) ordered, obtain accurate billing information, i.e. diagnosis codes, UPIN information, etc.
Researches test/client information utilizing lab computer system.
Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
Package specimens for transport. Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen. Demonstrates proficiency of proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens.
Maintains required records and documentation.
Maintains daily records and all appropriate PSC/IOP Phlebotomy logs.
Assist with compilation of monthly statistics and data.
Performs basic clerical duties, i.e. filing, faxing, and preparing mail. The person in this position is required to perform electronic data entry.
Approves time in attendance software by noon on the Monday following the end of the pay period. Submits accurate expense and travel logs Monday for the week prior or as directed by management.
Demonstrates organizational commitment.
Adheres to departmental and company code of grooming and dress code and lab coat policies, appearing neat and clean at all times.
Utilizes time appropriately. Capable of maintaining fluctuating patient flow.

Answers the telephone in a friendly and helpful manner, by incorporating the company name, self-identification and a helpful statement.

Ensures facilities are neat, clean and in good repair, takes appropriate action to advise Group Leader or Supervisor of required repairs and maintenance.
Assist with periodic inventory counts, report shortages and problems to group leader or supervisor as they occur.
Utilizes proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to ensure patient and personal safety. Exercises all laboratory safety precautions and adheres to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.

Description
This is a part-time, 32 hours per week phlebotomy float position.
Must be able to work a varied Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5pm schedule and two weekends per month. Flexibility with hours is needed for clients who may start earlier or stay later than the posted hours.
Must be comfortable driving to client sites in the Indianapolis area and the surrounding suburbs. Base hourly rate includes float differential compensation.

* Performs phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections per age related standards.

Operates the automated plasmapheresis machines, including response and evaluation of all
machine alarms and alerts, donor adverse events, document exceptions, etc.
Monitor donor conditions, employing techniques to ensure donor comfort, safety, and the quality
of plasma product.
Maintains proper ratio to ensure donor safety and to quality of product.
Disconnects the donor and handle the disposal of biohazardous waste and contaminated
equipment, including cleaning spills and following safety protocols.
Performs daily, weekly, and monthly calibration/maintenance of automated plasmapheresis
machines and removes and/or replaces equipment from service, if needed.
Reports all unsafe situations and conditions to management.
Maintains/stocks adequate inventory and replenish supplies on plasma carts.
Able to drive training efficiencies to ensure timeliness and compliance.
Responsible for troubleshooting machine alarms/alerts and perform QCs routinely (defined as
daily/monthly) on equipment.
Performs other job-related tasks as assigned.

Overview
The phlebotomist MA will travel to patient homes and Assisted Living communities to collect lab specimens and deliver to our lab partners. Deliver the collected samples to lab for testing or to the Garce at Home office for testing as indicated.
Communicating & collaborating with other staff to assure all work is completed
Keep workspace within HIPPA compliance
Communicate daily with Provider to encourage delivery of comprehensive care plan to each patient within the team and expedite workflow to facilitate Providers ability to see patients
Check EHR messages regularly. Follow up on requests in a timely manner
Qualifications
Phlebotomist training and certification is required, Medical Assistant Certification required
3+ years of experience in a healthcare setting.

The target salary for this position is $17/hour plus evening and weekend shift differentials.

Responsibilities
Follows all DOT guidelines when operating full-size commercial van/Promaster, and safely transports staff, supplies, and equipment.
Travels to other local collection sites, as determined by business need.
Prepares collection site and performs set up, including technology systems (may include quality control).
Performs donor screening (collects donor histories), mini-physical, and phlebotomy.
Observes donors for reactions, provides reaction care and assists other staff in handling reactions if needed. May provide post-reaction care at mobile drives including assessing reactions for recovery, escorting donors, and serving as liaison to coordinate care with host organizations (e.g. high school nurse, drive coordinator).
Conducts automation (Alyx and/or Trima), including recognizing and responding to automation reactions. Recruits and converts donors for automation.
Rebooks donors for future donation appointments.
Understands and performs to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.
Recognizes when the customer is distressed and responds appropriately with tact. Creates a safe environment for donors and staff members.
Treats donors with customer service excellence, presenting a positive image. Responds to customer inquiries, requests, and complaints with a timely and complete response and escalates to leader when appropriate.
May prepare and pack units for transport.
Maintains product integrity and ensures proper identification of all donors, performs routine maintenance on equipment, and completes department records as needed.
Requires evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
