Required Work Experience:
Three years phlebotomy experience required, inclusive of pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
Keyboard/data entry experience.
Flexible and available based on staffing needs, which includes weekends, holidays, on-call and overtime.
Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and clean driving record, if applicable.
Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
Phlebotomy certification preferred. Required in California, Nevada, and Washington.

Job Accountabilities (Responsibilities)
Collect specimens according to established procedures. This includes, but not limited to: drug screens, biometric screening and insurance exams.
Administer oral solutions according to established training.
Research test/client information and confirm and verify all written and electronic orders by utilizing lab technology systems, Client contact, and approved tools.
Ability to navigate a computer and accurately enter data is a requirement to be successful in this role.
Obtain identification and accurately enter billing information and collect payments when required, following corporate policies.
Processing specimens including: labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing and preparing for transport as required by test order.
Perform all non-patient facing duties, including inventory, stock supplies, sanitizing, filing, answering phones and utilizing email as appropriate.
Read, understand and comply with departmental policies, protocols and procedures.
Assist with compilation and submission of statistics and data when required.
Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner and based on frequency, such as maintenance logs and temperature logs.
Complete online and in person training courses timely.

Summary of Duties
The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures with precision, professionalism, and adherence to established protocols. This includes specimen identification, labeling, and handling to support diagnostic testing and patient care. The Phlebotomist interacts directly with patients, providing compassionate service while maintaining infection control standards and patient confidentiality.
Qualifications
A valid certification to practice in the state of Mississippi as a Phlebotomist, Medical Assistant, Laboratory Assistant, or an Emergency Medical Technician.
Be a graduate from an accredited school or program for Phlebotomy, Medical Assistant, Laboratory Assistant, or an Emergency Medical Technician.
Must provide proof of experience with specimen collection, packaging, and shipment to referral laboratories, with knowledge of maintaining appropriate records.
A minimum of one (1) year of Pharmacy Technician experience.
Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC)or the American Heart Association (AHA).

Organize, schedule, and perform laboratory studies, specimen collection, and processing within the Health Service Unit, including A&O in-processing, DNA processing per procedure, vaccine programs, and PPD updates.
Prepare and ensure specimens are packed and transported according to the contract or BOP Reference Laboratory guidelines, and document the process per Health Services Unit Laboratory Procedures.
Ensure that lab requests are completed accurately and that all reports are returned from the contract lab.
Notify the provider, update the log as received, follow up appropriately, and file or scan the results in the lab and medical record.
Acquire and maintain knowledge of the Health Services Manual and Unit Procedures necessary to accomplish the mission described herein, ensuring that the Laboratory Procedure Manual is updated accordingly.
Complete and scan into BEMR the Medical Treatment Refusal forms for any Adults in Custody (AIC) who wish to refuse laboratory testing ordered by clinical staff.

• Assist the Health Service Administrator (HSA) or his/her designee in the coordination of BOP and Contract Reference . Lab contact, CLIA re-certification, maintenance of equipment and notification of needed supplies
