Established patient identification protocols are followed consistently. Inpatients are identified by their wristbands, with no errors. Outpatients, including residents of assisted living facilities, are identified by having patient verbally spell complete name, confirm state and date of birth.
Interprets laboratory orders from clinical provider staff and enters orders into hospital computer systems.
Clinical Collect device is used appropriately in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Outpatient specimens are collected based on the requisition (not label). Compare requisition to Clinical Collect to verify all information. Correctly selects existing patient file from a search list 100% of time.
Quality Assurance review of all orders for accuracy is done before drawing the patient's blood to ensure tests are crossing the interface and not missed.
Duties may include registering patients in the hospital admission and billing systems, verifying insurance coverage, placing physician orders into the order entry system, verifying information for medical coding and billing, and resolving client concerns and inquiries.
May register patients for non-lab departments, such as Diagnostic Imaging (to include X-ray, Ultrasound, Bone Density and Mammogram) and Milford Urgent Care.
Performs minor specimen processing tasks which may include centrifugation of specimens, separation of serum/plasma and specimen preservation.
Interacts with patients, physicians, and hospital staff members in a professional manner.

Productivity standards are consistently met: An average of 6 to 8 minutes for one inpatient; 5-7 minutes for each outpatient.
Handles collected specimens to ensure they are delivered for optimum laboratory processing. Uses pneumatic tube appropriately. STAT specimens sent to lab immediately
Repeat venipuncture attempts are minimized and conducted according to policy.
Checks the collection lists and computer to consolidate requests and verify patient has/has not been recently drawn. Monitors wait list regularly to achieve low patient wait times and help meet patient satisfaction goals. Uses routine scheduled collection times to optimize patient flow.
Recognizes, reports, and seeks appropriate intervention for signs and symptoms of complication or significant change in patient status (e.g., fainting, nausea, etc.).
Provides patient education as needed including instructions for pre-collection preparation, specimen collection, and specimen labeling
Performs administrative and clerical tasks such as registering patients, ordering tests, maintaining patient records in a filing system, filing important records, retrieving data, and sending reports to physicians via phone, mail, fax, or computer.
Operates hospital and laboratory information systems effectively to enter and retrieve patient data.
Performs basic patient reception and specimen processing duties to include registration, ordering of tests, test add-ons, centrifuging, poring off specimens (aliquoting), and preserving specimen appropriately.
Registers patients accurately in the hospital information system by obtaining and verifying all required demographic and insurance information.

We are seeking candidates for permanent employment for the positions listed below.
An integral part of our hospital operations, the role of the Phlebotomist is a key player in the facilitation of collecting and passing along a vital piece of information to our Laboratory and Pathologists to help DHMC and Clinics achieve our mission of providing each person the best care, in the right place, at the right time, every time. The Phlebotomist collects blood samples from patients of all ages. Identifies patients and procures samples.
We are seeking candidates with prior Phlebotomy experience, or those looking to start a new career as a Phlebotomist, for whom we will provide on-the-job training for the position/shift you are offered.

Manchester Clinic:
Part-time (day shift), 20 hours/week, working Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 12:30 pm
Full-time (day shift), 40 hours/week, working Monday-Friday, 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
Full-time (day shift), 40 hours/week, working Monday-Friday, 9:30 am - 6:00 pm
Nashua Clinic:
Part-time (day shift), 20 hours/week, working Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 1:00 pm
Full-time (day shift), 40 hours/week, working Monday-Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Concord Clinic:
Full-time (day shift), 40 hours/week, working Monday-Friday, 9:30 am - 6:00 pm
All Southern Region Locations - position to rotate between locations as needed:
Full-time, 40 hours/week, working Monday-Friday, day shift with evenings as needed
All per diem, part-time, and full-time positions require weekends on rotation. Part-time and full-time positions require rotating holidays. All positions may rotate to other clinic locations as needed.

Responsibilities
Obtains blood specimens from outpatients. Maintains knowledge of specific specimen requirements and follows the correct order of draw based on tube type and special handing of tests. Utilizes proper resources for obtaining specimen requirement information.
Collects and enters off-site blood work into system.
Completes and processes a variety of forms. Obtains pre-authorizations and patient signatures.
Prepares specimens for in-lab testing or off-site shipment. Processes specimens that require special handling according to established procedures or protocols.
Ensures blood drawing stations are clean and well stocked.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
High school graduate or the equivalent required.
1 year of medical/technical experience desired.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
Proven work experience with the public.
Strong computer ability desired.
Applicant must be honest, dependable, able to multi-task, and be detail oriented.
Required Licensure/Certifications
BLS within 30 days
Certification as Phlebotomy Technician - PBT preferred within 6 months of hire. Issuing source American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) preferred.

Performs Venipuncture and capillary puncture to obtain blood from neonate, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Responsibilities Essential Functions
Identifies patient correctly by looking at identification wristband, and by asking the patient to state their name, or having a healthcare professional identify the patient
Verifies all physician orders to determine that all tests are ordered correctly.
Assesses each patient based upon age, disability, etc. to determine the method and area of collection most suitable for the comfort of the patient and others.
Reviews all testing requirements prior to obtaining the sample to determine that the correct supplies that are necessary.
Performs venipunctures and capillary punctures efficiently to obtain suitable blood samples and correctly labels all specimens as stated in policies and procedures. Assist in specimen collection when requested.
Prioritizes the collection of specimens based upon the status of routine, timed, urgent, or stat to ensure that workflow is timely and efficient.
Communicates to technical laboratory staff when timed, urgent, or stat specimens are delivered to facilitate an acceptable turn-around-time
Determines on a weekly and monthly basis, what supplies that are needed in the phlebotomy area, as well as, in laboratory departments, and submits this order to the Laboratory Manager.
Assists in the function of the Central Processing area to include but not limited to picking up samples at doctor's offices, processing samples for order entry, labeling samples, filling supply orders from outreach centers and researching sample problems.
Educates patients and co-workers in correct specimen collection procedures; determine the quality and acceptability of specimens collected by patients and co-workers
Orients and trains new employees and students in regards to Phlebotomy according to policies and procedures.
Maintains personal transportation to travel to area long term care facilities, outreach accounts and patient homes to collect Laboratory specimens.
Adheres to all required safety regulations as stated in policies and procedures. Removes or arranges for removal of safety hazards from environment immediately.
Maintains a safe, organized, and clean work area/environment for co-workers, patients and visitors.
Assists supervisors by performing required tasks to meet or exceed the department goals or objectives.
Enters and edits ordering information in the computer system on patients and specimens to maintain accurate records of testing and patient billing.
Communicates effectively, both written and verbally, with staff members and co-workers on all pertinent information in a professional manner.
Responds in an appropriate and timely manner to the requests and needs of patients and customers.
Acquires knowledge through educational in-services or seminars throughout the year. Possesses a comprehensive understanding in technology advances, disease processes and regulatory changes. Retains, applies and teaches others this knowledge.
Evaluates specimens for acceptability for testing in the department, and takes appropriate action when specimens are not acceptable.
Assures department supplies and reagents are utilized in a cost effective manner. Develops cost benefit analysis for testing protocols.
Maintains a safe environment for patients by assuring that sharp objects, toxic substances and other objects potentially harmful to children are not accessible.
Assures that the environment of care or services is free of objects which may contribute to the likelihood of patient falls, slips or trips. Makes readily available assistive devices for ambulation. Complies with policies and procedures relating to gait belts and similar devices
Is aware of the increased risk of falls, slips, and trips for elderly patients and visitors, and assures that the environment of care or services is free of objects and spills which may contribute to the likelihood of patient falls, slips, or trips.
Is sensitive to the tendency of older patients to have hearing difficulties. About the Job

About the Job:
The Clinical Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist (Travel) performs duties of Patient Registration, Central Processing and Phlebotomy. The incumbent will also perform specimen collection, receiving and distribution of specimens to the appropriate technical departments and will perform documentation of quality exceptions according to Laboratory protocol.
What You'll Do:
Collect, receive, and sort specimens.
Draw blood using proper technique. Responsible for accurate patient identification.
Accurately key and record patient information and laboratory orders into the information systems.
Perform laboratory tasks of centrifuging specimens, printing extra labels, specimen storage and retrieval.
Prepare specimens for testing, including building worklists, aliquoting specimens, measuring specimens, and checking specimen integrity.
Maintain competency in all phlebotomy procedures and protocols.
Perform phlebotomy at nursing homes and transport specimens within their motor vehicle.
Perform phlebotomy tasks in outpatients, inpatient, and the Emergency Department, and nursing homes for all age groups.
Who You Are:
High School diploma or GED required.
Phlebotomy Certification preferred
A minimum of one-three years of Laboratory experience preferred.
Must have a valid driver's license, and proof of automobile insurance coverage is required throughout duration of appointment.
A motor vehicle background report will be conducted.
