Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
Collects and stores specimens in accordance with established procedures.
Properly explain in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required.
Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Fully understand all of the physicians' orders. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% correctness.
Package specimens for transport.
Stores specimen samples according to the required temperature, and places samples.
Qualifications:
A High School Diploma or GED is required.
A minimum of 1-3 yr. of phlebotomy experience is required.

How you will contribute:
* You will greet donors as they enter and exit the donor floor.
* You will perform venipuncture of donors and programming of plasmapheresis machine.
* You will monitor donors during the donation process and manage donor reactions.
* You will perform all tasks required for the setup, verification, operation, and troubleshooting of plasmapheresis equipment within scope of training.
* You will install, prime, and disconnect disposable sets on the plasmapheresis machines
* You will stock supplies, break down empty cartons and assist with proper disposal.
* You will take and record donor pulse, blood pressure, and temperature measures and monitor electronic donor questionnaire system.
* You will perform finger sticks, test sample, and record other donor measures to include hematocrit, total protein, and weight.
* You will enter donor information into the Donor Information System (DIS).
* You will coordinate donors to donor floor and compensate donors using the Debit Card system.

Disposes of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies. Disposes of contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies.
Completes requisitions accurately.
Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer. Requires attention to detail to maintain high level of accuracy. Communicate with clients to confirm handwritten orders, verify test(s) ordered, obtain accurate billing information, i.e. diagnosis codes, UPIN information, etc.
Researches test/client information utilizing lab computer system.
Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
Package specimens for transport. Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen. Demonstrates proficiency of proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens.
Maintains required records and documentation.
Maintains daily records and all appropriate PSC/IOP Phlebotomy logs.
Assist with compilation of monthly statistics and data.
Performs basic clerical duties, i.e. filing, faxing, and preparing mail. The person in this position is required to perform electronic data entry.
Approves time in attendance software by noon on the Monday following the end of the pay period. Submits accurate expense and travel logs Monday for the week prior or as directed by management.

General Description
The primary responsibility of the Clinical Laboratory Technician is to ensure the proper collection of blood specimens for established procedures and protocols and to assist in their delivery to the appropriate performing laboratory.
Job Duties
Perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures.
Prepare and initiate special tests and procedures including, but not limited to, cytogenetics, general laboratory, Point-of-Care Testing, urinalysis without a microscope, phlebotomy, and specimen management.
Obtain total volume, perform aliquot, and distribute all urine specimens.
Properly determine urine volume. Properly label aliquot containers.
Communicate in a professional and courteous manner with patients, family, and other medical personnel as necessary for problem recognition and initiation of the resolution and, if necessary, escalation to the next level. Obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, allay fears, and elicit cooperation.
Utilize standard equipment to maintain positive patient identification through the maintenance of all clinical laboratory records, register/accession patients/specimens and perform order entry as required.
Perform various quality control, safety, and infection control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations.
Receive and process specimens as required by respective laboratory area procedures and protocols.
Receive specimens in the laboratory using Beaker.
Positively ID all patient specimens, and verify all laboratory labels/requisitions, ensuring a valid order. Properly sort all specimens.
Participate in the distribution of specimens, supplies, and reports to the appropriate laboratory staff; perform messenger/courier activities as required.
Maintain inventory of supplies; stock supplies on carts and hand trays; wash glassware.
Utilize various hospital information systems and software.
Assist with the maintenance of specimens and/or slides.
Perform routine maintenance as required by laboratory procedures.
Assist with word processing, miscellaneous office tasks, and maintaining office records.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Education
High School diploma or GED. For assignment to phlebotomy, completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation are recommended.

Alternatively, an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. One year of previous clinical lab experience is preferred.
