Prioritize collection of specimens, including STAT, timed, routine and therapeutic drug-monitoring collections. Perform and result point of care testing on blood, urine, and respiratory specimens. Access, select, release and print interfaced orders from the electronic medical record system, resolving unusual or duplicative orders as needed. Travel to additional clinic locations in the Stormont Vail Laboratory system as needed. Follow all safety and infection prevention guidelines, both related to the care of the patient as well as to the employee. Assist with teaching, training, and mentoring phlebotomist interns and trainees. Collect specimens for legal blood alcohol, drug screens, and paternity tests; testify in regional court systems to explain collection procedure if subpoenaed. Maintain and monitor supply stock in the laboratory. Apply mathematics to determine safe removal volume for pediatric blood collections. Demonstrate and follow professional behavior and Phlebotomist Service Standards when interacting with patients and other members of the health care team. Travel to outside locations if requested. A Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting (drawing) blood samples from patients for testing. After safely drawing the sample, the Phlebotomist will ensure the samples are accurately labeled, stored correctly and tested per the order. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES Preparing patients before drawing blood. Explaining blood draw procedures to patients and answering any questions about the process. Following all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain sanitary work areas including infectious control, sterilization of equipment and disposing of sharps. Accurately updating patient information in the organization's database. Helping nervous or frightened patients remain calm during blood draws. Performing CLIA-waved testing. Supporting Medical Assistants in ensuring Quality Controls are performed and logs are completed. How you will contribute: * You will answer phones, and greet and focus on our donors, while ensuring the safety of donors and our team. * You will screen new and repeat donors and take and record donor vital signs and finger stick results. * You will use our Donor Information System, prepare donor charts, maintain accurate records, and coordinate donor compensation. * You will help identify operational opportunities for continuous improvement and initiate changes to center processes using company approved procedures. * You will be there for our donors, which includes working a variety of shifts, Saturdays and Sundays, and holidays. Job Description TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: o Employee will drive their personal vehicle (unless other accommodations are made) to client facilities (mostly nursing homes) as directed by company dispatcher or assigned Area Phlebotomy Supervisor/ Area Lead. o Follows established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining blood samples from patients. o Properly and accurately identify patients according to phlebotomy patient identification policy prior to drawing. o Ensures that specimens are properly labeled, in the proper tube and accompanied by a completed requisition, including patient billing information prior to transport. o Follows phlebotomy policy on transporting PHI. o Plans, organizes draw schedule with attention to priority of patients. o Completes written logs, time sheets and other required records in a neat and accurate manner. o Works cooperatively with dispatch, payroll, laboratory and courier departments. o Maintains all equipment in good working order and reports problem immediately to Area Phlebotomy Supervisor. o When on-duty, answers company issued mobile device promptly and is ready and available to work. o Notifies dispatch of availability for future assignment. o Perform other duties as assigned by Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.
