Responsibilities: Job Duties: * Assigned a territory to cover phlebotomist duties within a Patient Service Center, doctor's office, or as business needs dictate * Draw quality blood samples from patients and prepares those specimens for lab testing * Collect specimens according to established procedures. Responsibilities: * Perform venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick procedures following proper patient identification protocols. * Instruct patients on collection procedures for non-blood specimens and collect samples as required. * May also perform arterial puncture following strict collection and post collection guidelines. * Transport specimens safely from on-site and off-site collection areas to the appropriate lab section. * Ensure compliance with laboratory and hospital policies, including quality assurance and infection control measures. * Interact courteously and professionally with all laboratory customers and respond to telephone inquiries promptly. * Perform clerical duties such as data entry, test ordering, specimen labeling, and verifying patient information. * Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as assigned. * Communicate unusual or problematic incidents to technical staff, supervisors, or pathologists. * Receive, label, and prepare specimens for analysis while maintaining accuracy and integrity. * Order, organize, and maintain inventory of supplies; check expiration dates and stock patient care areas. * Provide clear instructions to patients regarding specimen collection and address concerns with professionalism and empathy. *Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. *Performs other duties as assigned. * High school diploma or equivalent is required. * Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program is preferred. * Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy is preferred. * Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience preferred. Licenses, Certifications, and Clearances: * Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred. * Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal * Act 33 with renewal * Act 34 with renewal * Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal UPMC is an equal opportunity employer.
