The Phlebotomist II will perform high-quality blood collection and specimen processing in a medium-sized Patient Service Center (PSC). This person must be skilled, reliable, and capable of working independently while providing excellent patient care. The first 1-2 weeks will include training at alternative PSC locations and completing computer-based learning modules.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform venipuncture and capillary collections on diverse patient populations (pediatric, adult, geriatric)
Process specimens, label correctly, and ensure accuracy
Draw 20-50 patients per day
Provide excellent customer service and demonstrate attention to detail
Follow all company procedures, safety guidelines, and compliance requirements
Skills & Qualifications:
1.5 years of phlebotomy experience required, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections
High school diploma or GED

* Collect specimens according to established procedures. This includes, but not limited to: drug screens, biometric screening and insurance exams.
* Administer oral solutions according to established training.
* Research test/client information and confirm and verify all written and electronic orders by utilizing lab technology systems, Client contact, and approved tools.
* Ability to navigate a computer and accurately enter data is a requirement to be successful in this role.
* Obtain identification and accurately enter billing information and collect payments when required, following corporate policies.
* Processing specimens including: labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing and preparing for transport as required by test order.

Pay Range: $18 - $23 per hour
SCOPE: Under minimal supervision, is responsible for the collecting and processing of specimens from patients. Follows quality assurance and safety policies and procedures. Assists with patient flow as needed. Properly identifies patient, draws blood samples and sends to laboratory for analysis. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct.
Package specimens for transport
Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.
Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department trainings
Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states
Minimum of 1 years' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting
Reliable transportation with at least 4 years of licensed driving experience and possess a valid driver's license issued in the state of residence.

The Phlebotomist performs blood specimen collection, both venous and capillary procedures on inpatients and outpatients. Performs EKG's as needed. They are also responsible for identifying, processing, and distributing all laboratory specimens according to laboratory standards.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):
High school graduate or equivalent.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
Perform Phlebotomy and Specimen Processing
Perform all responsibilities of Phlebotomist/Specimen Processor I
Perform mini-registration using Hospital Information System (HIS)
Perform specimen preparation/processing to include batching specimens, centrifuging, decanting, and relabeling
Process Laboratory Reference Miscellaneous testing specimens
Perform proficiently in the Ellis Laboratory campus triage and fast track work stations
Perform Outpatient EKG's as required
Perform verification of inpatients laboratory specimens
Perform batching and unbatching of outpatient laboratory specimens
Perform Phlebotomy at Nursing Homes as required
Perform Phlebotomy for Ellis Home Draw population as required
Order Laboratory tests using current Laboratory Information System (LIS)
Perform all other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Should be able to push/pull, lift/move 35 lb., be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a keyboard, writing, and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers. Mobility requirements may include the ability to be stationary at a workstation for a prolonged period time in addition to being able to squat or be mobile for a reasonable length of time and distance. Communication requirements include the ability to comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to communicate and read the English language.
