We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team, exhibiting proficiency in blood collection by venipuncture and capillary technique from patients of all age groups. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of compliance and safety protocols, along with the ability to effectively communicate their importance to other employees. The successful candidate will also possess the necessary skills to provide orientation and training for patient service technicians. You will primarily work with pediatric patients under the supervision of the lab supervisor and team lead. The work schedule requires availability between 6am to 11pm every day of the week.
Responsibilities

Essential Skills

Work Environment
This is a high-volume role primarily working in Medical Office Buildings (clinics). Once permanent, you will work in the main lab in a hospital setting. The work locations include various draw stations in locations such as Aliso Viejo, Irvine, Foothill Ranch, Huntington Beach, Santa Ana, and others. Flexibility in shifts and hours is required, and the ability to travel to different locations is essential.

The CTRU is seeking two Research Phlebotomists to perform phlebotomy and duties related to the collection of clinical samples and assisting with the operational and administrative requirements to support the clinical trial operations for several research studies. This position will be involved in a range of duties including but not limited to phlebotomy, EKGs, scheduling and organizing participant appointments, reception duties, registering participants, reviewing participant medical orders, taking vital signs and weight and height measurements, assisting with logistics, and serving as liaison with internal and external colleagues.
The Research Phlebotomists report to the CTRU Nurse Manager. This position places a heavy emphasis on attention to detail, effective communication and the ability to multitask efficiently and accurately is required.
Duties include:
Perform basic measurements and tests on patients according to protocol, such as obtaining vital signs and performing phlebotomy and EKG, after appropriate training/certification. Collect study specimens according to protocol.
Schedule and/or call subjects for appointments; contact participants with reminders or other requirements.
Prepare, distribute, and process questionnaires.
Prepare research meals/perform kitchen clean up duties as needed for research participants in the unit.
Perform clerical duties in the preparation of regulatory documents. Maintain all forms and documents, including consent forms and master subject logs. File all appropriate correspondence.

Collects patient blood and/or urine specimens using established procedures
Properly prepares collected specimens for testing and analysis, ensuring specimen integrity
Verifies urine and blood test requisitions
Identifies the patient before any specimen is obtained
Labels and documents specimens to prepare for shipment
Maintains daily tallies of collections performed
Tracks and requests laboratory and office supplies needed to fulfill duties
Provides site specific procedural training to new employees
Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations; follow Universal Precautions and OSHA standards when handling specimens.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency
Computer and technology proficient
Valid driver's license and car insurance

A proven ability to handle ambiguity in the absence of defined systems and processes
Minimum 2yrs experience or 1yr of hospital inpatient experience

1+ years of professional phlebotomy experience in a laboratory or hospital setting

Performs proper specimen collection and labeling procedures used for routine and special procedures
Performs all standard laboratory techniques related to phlebotomy such as correcting patient identification, proper collection of samples (volume, tube type, temperature and/or timing conditions) and collection of specimens for urinalysis, 24-hour urines, toxicology and microbiological (sputum and urine), all defined within the standard operating procedures
Must accession all specimens in receiving area and ensure timely transport and distribution of specimens to all sections of the laboratory for immediate processing and testing; if unable to deliver samples due to peak workloads, contacts sectional personnel to transport samples
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency (i.e. CPT I/II licensing in California)
Completion of an approved phlebotomy training course (or equivalent)
American Heart Association (AHA) CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS)
Minimum of 2 years of experience within the last 3 years as a patient service technician/phlebotomist in an outpatient setting is required
Proficiency in the following: blood collection by venipuncture and capillary technique from patients of all age groups, urine drug screen collections, paternity collections, breath/saliva alcohol testing, LCM/Cyber Tools, TestCup, pediatric blood collections, and difficult draws
All candidates must be able to:
Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift
Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
Lift up to 20 lbs
Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
Push/pull with 30 lbs of force
