This role will be responsible for drawing blood from patients and answering any questions patients may have to ensure they are comfortable and at ease. The phlebotomist is also responsible for maintaining sanitary work areas to prevent the spread of disease and infection.
Essential Functions:
Prepare patients before drawing blood
Explain blood draw procedures to patients and answering any questions about the process
Verify patient information and labeling blood samples properly
Follow all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain sanitary work areas
Gather medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, blood storage bags and test tubes.
Accurately update patient information in the organizations database
Help nervous or frightened patients remain calm during blood draws
Work with supervising physicians and always follow their directions
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Phlebotomy Certification in good standing required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially to a diverse range of audiences and settings.
The ability to handle multiple tasks while working in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
Ability to deal with high pressure
Excellent grasp of medical terminology, human anatomy, and testing procedures

Answers telephone calls and routes calls to appropriate member of the medical or laboratory staff.
Inventories and requisitions medical laboratory supplies; stocks work area as needed.
Keeps work areas clean and orderly.
Support staff in assigned project based work.
Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner and based on frequency, such as maintenance logs and temperature logs.
Research test/client information to confirm and verify all written and electronic orders by utilizing lab technology systems or directory of services.
With appropriate training, act as mentor and resource for new employees, assisting with transition into the work environment and the familiarity with established procedures.
Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor as required.

Ability to properly perform venipuncture blood draws within two attempts when required.
Accurately record participant screening data either on paper or in electronic tablet.

Assist in troubleshooting of screening issues as needed.
Assist in setting up and breakdown biometric screening equipment.
Assist in transport of equipment to and from testing location and office which may require using stairs and/or flights of stairs.
Respond and assist to medical emergency situations, such as fainting, hypoglycemia, seizure, syncope, cardiac arrest. Must be able to assist participant to the floor and provide medical care up to and including CPR. Must also initiate contact with emergency response personnel.

Perform all CLIA waived inhouse testing as requested by providers (With the exception of urine drug screens).

Maintain quality results by following department protocol/procedures and accurately recording results in quality-control log;
Scrub Lab schedule the day prior to lab appointments for patients falling within the recommended age group for “FIT Test”, offer and perform on their arrival.
Introduce any seasonal vaccines, i.e., influenza to patients with lab appointment, then task assigned PCA for administration.

Job Responsibilities:
* Perform blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques for all age groups
* Collect specimens for drug screens, paternity tests, alcohol tests, etc.
* Perform data entry of patient information in an accurate and timely manner
* Process billing information and collect payments when required
* Prepare all collected specimens for testing and analysis
* Maintain patient and specimen information logs
* Provide superior customer service to all patients
* Administrative and clerical duties as necessary
* Prepare laboratory specimens for analysis and testing
* Unpack and route specimens to their respective staging areas
* Accurately identify and label specimens
* Pack and ship specimens to proper testing facilities
* Meet department activity and production goals
* Properly prepare and store excess specimen samples
* Data entry of patient information in an accurate and timely manner
* Resolve and document any problem specimens.
* Preparing samples of Bone marrow to be delivery to Accessioning area
* Covering Blood Bank station to receive and issue blood products.
Job Requirements:
In order to ensure the safety of our patients, this position requires as part of the post-offer onboarding process, successful completion of medical surveillance testing which includes: TB testing; proof of immunity or vaccination for Hepatitis B, Varicella, and MMR; and color blind deficiency testing (if required by position). * High school diploma or equivalent

* Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency is preferred

The Role
Collects biological samples, performs phlebotomy, vital signs and ECG's in accordance with the specific activity schedule
Tracks overall study event schedule and participant compliance
To ensure study data is collected to a high quality in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards
To ensure subject safety at all times
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
Responsible for collection of biological samples; e.g. urine, and sputum
Responsible for drawing blood specimens (by venipuncture) according to the times specified in the study schedules
Responsible for recording and maintaining records of blood draws and other biological specimen collections (per SOPs) via paper or electronic
Assist with the proper labelling and preparation of blood collection tubes when indicated
Assures that all necessary blood collection tubes, equipment and supplies are on the floor prior to blood draw time
Prepares the unit for any scheduled activities and upon completion removes all equipment and/or supplies from the floor
Able to take and record accurate vital signs; recognize and report any abnormal vital signs.
Able to operate ECG machine and or holter if within scope of practice
Promptly reports any study participant's adverse event and/or lack of compliance to the Study Nurse Coordinator
Must be familiar with proper phlebotomy and laboratory procedures in compliance with OSHA regulations, Good Clinical Practices and Quotient Sciences Operating Procedures
Responsible for proper biomedical waste disposal procedures and schedules
Responsible for reading and understanding all protocols and schedules
Responsible for assisting in the recording and distributing of meals to study participants according to strict meal schedules
Assures that the unit is kept clean and orderly at all times and removes any items not permitted from the floor
Able to interact and maintain a professional demeanor with study participants during their inpatient stay
Responsible for observing confidentiality practices regarding any protocols, subject information and/or any relevant industry information at all times
Assists with the preparation of data collection binders and study documents as assigned by the Study Nurse Coordinator.
