Description
This is a full-time, 40 hours per week phlebotomy float position.
Must be able to work Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5pm and two weekends per month. Flexibility with hours is needed for clients who may start earlier or stay later than the posted hours.
Must be comfortable driving to client sites in the Detroit area and the surrounding suburbs. Base hourly rate includes float differential compensation.

Responsibilities:
* Performs phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections per age related standards.
* Provides appropriate post-phlebotomy patient care.
* Identifies need for patient medical assistance and call code as appropriate.
* Reviews/Records refrigerator temperature(s) and QC/QA records. Areas of concern are recorded through the Corrective Action Log and reported to maintenance for repair. Findings are reported to supervisor or manager.
* Use manual requisitions and labels specimens appropriately.
* Label and process specimens according to establishes protocols and policies.
* Must effectively procure blood specimens from infant, adult, geriatric, and wheelchair bound patients.
* Must demonstrate competency for age related responsibilities.
* Understands the operation and maintenance of equipment pertinent to the job.
* Follows up with all outstanding orders on manifest log, and communicates all timed, completed or uncompleted draws/charges/results to the client office staff and performs other duties as assigned.
* Requests/obtains written physician orders with all required information necessary for lab services requested and accurately orders laboratory tests in computer system(s).
* Prioritizes tasks and is able to multi-task.
* Performs and collects phlebotomy specimens within cost and maintains efforts of a less than 2 percent recollection or cancellation rate.

You will report to the Plasma Center Manager and will perform as a plasma donor screener and perform phlebotomy to support plasma center operations.
How you will contribute:
* You will greet donors as they enter and exit the donor floor.
* You will perform venipuncture of donors and programming of plasmapheresis machine.
* You will monitor donors during the donation process and manage donor reactions.
* You will perform all tasks required for the setup, verification, operation, and troubleshooting of plasmapheresis equipment within scope of training.
* You will install, prime, and disconnect disposable sets on the plasmapheresis machines
* You will stock supplies, break down empty cartons and assist with proper disposal.
* You will take and record donor pulse, blood pressure, and temperature measures and monitor electronic donor questionnaire system.
* You will perform finger sticks, test sample, and record other donor measures to include hematocrit, total protein, and weight.
* You will enter donor information into the Donor Information System (DIS).
* You will coordinate donors to donor floor and compensate donors using the Debit Card system.

Essential Functions:
Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws on clients as ordered by providers.
Prepare, label, and process blood and other specimens for lab analysis following established procedures and protocols.
Complete lab work at various CNS sites and in persons homes or other places in the community.
Coordinate with nurses at on site lab to prioritize lab collections.
Create lab orders for outside lab orders received
Provide coverage for nurses or onsite phlebotomist when absent.
Monitor completion of lab works ordered by nurses and prescribers.
Monitor lab supply inventory and notify supervisor of needed supplies.
Follow -up to secure lab results from other practices and hospitals.
Complete all required documentation completely, accurately, and in accordance with agency policy.
Performs delegated duties from prescribers including medication and lab work ordering as assigned
Maintain knowledge and compliance with established policies and procedures, corporate compliance program, code of ethics, applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, HIPAA standards, and other regulatory programs.
Develop and foster working relationships with the Chief Medical Officer, Psychiatrists, Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Medical Assistants, Case Manager, Peer Support Specialists and laboratory staff.
Participate and promote departmental and agency quality improvement initiatives
Completes all documentation in its entirety
Follow infection control, safety, and HIPAA procedures at all times.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
Medical Assistant Certification or Phlebotomy Certification
Obtain and maintain Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
Reliable transportation and proof of current auto insurance required
At least one year of experience practicing phlebotomy
Experience with the application of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in health care organizations
Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office products including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint and Teams.
Proficient in the use of electronic health records (EHRs)
Proficient in medical waste disposal and the Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) Standard and CDC's recommended standard protection control plan and requirements for OSHA's BBP standards.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented, and culturally diverse environment.
Ability to analyze information, research issues, pay attention to detail, and meet deadlines.
Ability to operate standard office machines such as photocopiers, faxes, computers, and video/tele-conferencing equipment.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team and build positive working relationships.
Ability to communicate effectively, professionally, and courteously.

Outpatient Phlebotomist
Phlebotomist job in Ann Arbor, MI
Shift: The position requires flexibility to work between 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with a 1-hour lunch break. Additionally, you will rotate one Saturday every 4 weeks from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Hours: Full time, 32, 36 or 40 hours a week
Department: Outpatient Lab
Minimum rate of pay: $17.46 per hour +
Location: Qualified applicants must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to all Clinical Lab Locations: Ann Arbor, Brighton, Canton, Milan, Plymouth, Ypsilanti.
This is not a summer only opportunity - team members must be able to maintain a consistent schedule.
NOTE: Upon hire - all new team members must be able to fulfill mandatory full-time training. The paid training is Monday-Friday, during normal business hours, and will last 8 weeks minimum. Qualified candidates must have open availability to meet this requirement.
POSITION PURPOSE
Performs phlebotomy, specimen receipt, processing, specimen distribution, computer order entry and/or requisition completion, and other pre-analytical tasks as required. Tracks specimens through appropriate computer functions when available, to ensure that all specimens are routed accurately and in a timely manner. Assures complete and accurate patient samples, patient demographics, and diagnosis codes are provided, and submits to the laboratory for testing.
Required Qualifications:
Education
* High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of phlebotomy, medical assistant or patient care technician training.
Experience
* Previous phlebotomy experience preferred if formal training and certification as a phlebotomist is not obtained.
* Experience as a Phlebotomist or with blood draws is highly preferred.

What you will do:
* Performs successful sample collection to include venipuncture blood draw, capillary puncture, infant heel sticks, and urine collection utilizing proper patient identification and customer service skills.
* Understands laboratory requisitions and how to locate missing or incomplete information.
