* Generate specimen collection lists for the entire laboratory which requires familiarity with all laboratory tests, computer functions, duplicate orders, and ordering patterns for the nursing units.
* Read and carry out physician's orders.
* Communicate with the nursing units and physicians to ensure that proper laboratory tests are ordered.
* Take corrective action for improperly ordered laboratory tests.
* Recognize and correct problems according to prescribed phlebotomy protocols.
* Participate in quality assurance studies and QM meetings.
* Documents any customer, visitor, and patient concern appropriately.

* Performs workstation redirection of specimens when needed by department.
* Handles temporary charge duties as directed and/or directs workflow and assigns duties as appropriate.
* Effectively performs and documents competency validations as appropriate for department.
* Effectively troubleshoots and resolves Lab phlebotomy related issues and problems.
* Participates special projects, data collection, and preparation of accrediting body and other inspections as directed.
* Participates in retaining and obtaining knowledge and skills by acquiring the required continuing education contact hours annually.
* Actively involved in continuing education by annually presenting or facilitating one (1) hour in-service or two (2) 30 minutes in-services.
* Assists technical personnel in preparation of specimens for analysis by loading/unloading specimens on analytical instruments under the direction of a MLS.
* Orders supplies from Materials Management and outside vendors as appropriate.
* Serves as a resource for phlebotomy questions from our customers.
* Organizes and assists with compiling phlebotomy QA data as directed by supervisor.
* Is able to perform as an instructor and primary operator for point of care testing.
* Has been evaluated against CLIA-88 requirements and is qualified to perform all duties and responsibilities for this position.
