Reporting directly to the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, the Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs Administration, provides leadership, management and oversight for business, legal and regulatory matters involving the School of Medicine faculty. The Associate Dean holds responsibility for the comprehensive management of faculty disciplinary and personnel issues. Additionally, this role directs the development, review and approval of agreements between the School of Medicine and external agencies and individuals.
As a senior leader within the School of Medicine, the Associate Dean holds responsibility for key aspects of administrative processes for School of Medicine faculty such as review of faculty appointments; investigations of academic and conduct concerns; and orchestrating faculty grievances and investigations relating to scientific misconduct.
Important details regarding core duties and responsibilities include:
+ Provides advice and subject matter expertise to support the management of individual faculty performance and conduct matters, including non-renewals and terminations.
+ Leads formal investigations of faculty misconduct allegations along with proactive coordination across a range of Emory partners such as SOM Departmental Chairs, Departmental Administrators and HR leaders, Office of General Counsel, Emory Healthcare/Physician Division, HR Division at Emory University and Emory's Faculty-Staff Assistance Program.
+ Provides support to SOM leadership including Research Executive Associate Dean and to the University Research Compliance and Regulatory Affairs Department on research misconduct and research compliance matters.
+ Supports the administration of processes and key decision-making regarding grievances and disputes (e.g., SOM faculty grievances, authorship disputes, inter-faculty conflicts).
+ Serves as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert on the interpretation and application of the full scope of faculty-related policies such as vacation leave, salary continuation, sabbatical, etc.
+ Provides guidance specifically navigating these issues with various healthcare delivery partners in alignment with partnership agreements and overarching University requirements.
+ Provides input and involvement in issues around distinguished appointments.
+ Performs faculty affairs review and approval of all new faculty candidate packets, advising Dean's office leadership around the complexity of organizational policies and procedures governing proposed faculty assignments within the SOM, Emory Healthcare and related affiliation partnerships such as Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Grady Health System, etc. Additionally, engages in review of faculty retention requests as needed.
+ Ensures appropriate oversight of processes for routine review of faculty external activities and application of industry relationships policies to manage disclosures and conflicts of interest.
+ Holds designation as "Institutional Business Official" for all SOM NIH Loan Repayment Program applicants, providing institutional certification of salary and support.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Advanced degree in a scientific, health-related, or business administration program, with a Juris Doctor strongly preferred.
+ Ten years of experience in faculty administration and/or legal and regulatory management, including prior supervisory experience.
+ Strong writing, conflict resolution, and critical thinking skills along with the ability to collaborate and problem solve within multiple constituencies and across differing levels of organizational complexity.
+ An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience may be considered.
This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, with a mix of in-person and remote work.

Job Description
The Identity and Access Management (IAM) Intern will work with IAM staff to learn how identity plays into the larger information security picture. The IAM intern will work on projects specific to identity creation/management and access control management, as applied in a healthcare setting at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
The IAM intern's project will focus on assisting IAM engineer(s) with access control clean-up in the on-premises Active Directory. Work efforts will be based on reporting delivered to the IAM Team from Varonis, the tool used to manage access to unstructured data (primarily the Children's P: Drive) at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
The Children's Summer Intern program allows interns the opportunity to gain hands-on experience related to their field of study by working on meaningful projects alongside Children's professionals. Intern responsibilities may include project management, event planning and support, logistics, data base management, research, and analysis. Interns may explore career paths and apply for full-time positions upon successful completion of the program.
Experience
* Research area: research experience necessary either through previous internship, work experience, or course work; practical knowledge about the conduct of research principals required
Preferred Qualifications
* Progression toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science, information systems, or cybersecurity/information security
Education
Clinical Focus:
* College student with at least two years in a health sciences related program, such as pre-med, nursing, biomedical engineering, biology, chemistry, or statistics, or post graduate student working toward a Master's of Science in public health or medical degree
Non-Clinical Focus:
* College or graduate student that is currently working towards a Bachelor or Master's degree in Journalism, Communications, Business, Marketing, Healthcare Administration or other related field, required

Responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Is cross trained to understand scheduling protocols for all operating rooms at all Northside surgical locations, labor and delivery, and GI services.
Is cross trained to understand scheduling protocols for all Northside Hospital surgical facilities pre assessment areas.
Schedules surgical/GI/L&D procedures, staff, and equipment for multiple surgical facilities. Ensures physician's request for equipment and instruments can be granted. Must possess ability to conflict check: equipment, surgeon, OR time history, Procedure appropriateness for facility and room, Ancillary staff (Radiology, Neuro diagnostics, NICU, L&D)
Schedules anesthesia coverage for ancillary areas including radiology and cardiology.
Schedules coordinated procedures with radiology scheduling and the physicians' office.
Resolves all scheduling conflicts and works directly with other ancillary departments and all Northside Hospital surgical facilities to assure easy accessibility for both patient and physician.
Faxes/phones surgeons' offices daily to confirm surgical appointments.
Cross-references surgical procedure with pre assessment appointment. Telephones patients to schedule or confirm pre assessment appointment. Provides patient with information and instructions as appropriate to procedure or appointment.
Acts as a Surgical coordinator to interface with the following areas: Admissions, ER, Patient Floors, All ancillary departments.
Acts as the direct surgical liaison for all office managers and physicians.
Works directly with medical staff office to assure physicians, contract personnel and NPP's have appropriate delineation of privileges.
Prepares, verifies, and distributes surgical and pre assessment schedules to appropriate areas.
Coordinates and verifies the scheduling of contract personnel and services.
Undergoes extensive orientation and ongoing training to stay up to date on surgeons, new procedures, and new technology.
Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to Manager.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties as assigned by supervision.

Associate's degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Nursing or related field
OR
Five (5) years previous medical related clerical experience
Demonstrates high level proficiency in the following software packages or equivalent:

+ Prepares and mails outgoing correspondence and information.
+ May greet visitors and answer and screen incoming telephone calls by providing information or taking messages and distributing them to the appropriate employee.
+ May type labels, envelopes, routine forms and correspondence.
+ Performs related responsibilities as required.
