Description: Essential Functions Documents and submits required information and data in a timely fashion. Clearly and accurately documents designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc. Ensures that documentation is tailored to expected readers/users. Uses correct terminology. Conforms to required style and format. Treats patients and families with compassion and implements a plan of care. Bases care decisions on a plan of care. Monitors and documents patient response. Establishes rapport with clients. Adapts communication style, listens and responds to patient needs. Recognizes age-specific responses to treatment. Provides effective interventions. Respects patients confidentiality and privacy. Supports social, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients and families. Manages difficult or emotional patient situations. Develops expected outcomes that provide direction for continuity of care. Involves patient/family and other disciplines to determine expected outcomes. Modifies expected outcomes based on changes in the assessment of the patient. Includes the patient and others involved in the care in the evaluation process. Evaluates the plan in relation to patient responses and expected outcomes. Documents the results of the evaluation. Demonstrates technical skill in using equipment appropriate for the role. Understands equipment operation. Maintains equipment in working order. Troubleshoots equipment problems. Uses technology to increase productivity. Adapts to new technology. Additional Duties Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines. Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission, and vision of the organization. Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures. Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs). Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time. Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs. For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates the usage of age-specific customer service skills. Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED (Required) Work Experience 1 year of clinical work experience. Phoebe Putney Health System clinical rotation and/or medical assistant internship experience will be considered in lieu of actual work experience. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Assists in the ongoing maintenance of hospital and department quality initiatives, including but not limited to patient safety initiatives and bedside glucose monitoring quality controls. * Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to Manager. * Performs daily care activities including bathing, personal hygiene, feeding and dressing patients. * Obtains and records vital signs, intake and output amounts, or other measures as designated, collects and tests specimens as required, and observes patient's condition and reports abnormal symptoms, unusual conditions or adverse reactions to the nurse. * Assists patients with position changes, range of motion exercises, standing, and walking. Transports patients as required for treatments, procedures, etc. * Assists physicians and nurses with physical examination and treatments and performs surgical preps and simple sterile or nonsterile dressing changes. Inserts and removes foley catheters as directed. * Provides additional therapies, procedures and treatments. These skills include but are not limited to NG tube maintenance, EKG lead placement, suction and oxygen setup. * Transports equipment, specimens, blood, etc., throughout the hospital. * Maintains technical training in use of equipment pertinent to specific area. * May enter physician orders for tests, procedures, etc., into computer system. May transcribe medical orders as required. * Documents care activities and patient data in appropriate area of patient record. * Performs 12 lead EKGs as designated by department, following completion of training and competency check-off. * May assist mothers with breast-feeding, provides patient education relating to infant care, checks and assists with monitor equipment and sets up for phototherapy. Assists in the use of clinical devices including bag-valve-mask, anti-embolism stockings, pneumatic compression stockings, oxygen, suction equipment, incentive spirometer, and emergency carts. 2. Operates patient care equipment such as converter chairs, lifts, scales, beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, non-invasive blood pressure monitors, automatic thermometers, sphygmomanometers, pulse oximeters, and computers. 3. Collects and transports patient specimens and ensures timely completion of applicable forms. 4. Transports patients safely throughout the hospital as needed. * Team Collaboration & Communication 1. Communicates effectively with patients, families, and members of the patient care team. 2. Promotes a supportive and healing environment to enhance patient and staff satisfaction. 3. Participates in unit-based and system-wide performance improvement programs as required. 4. Collaborates with nursing staff to ensure individualized care is delivered according to patient needs. * Compliance & Safety: 1. Maintains hospital and unit-specific competencies. Required Minimum Qualifications: * Education / Experience: 1. High School diploma or equivalent. * 2. Previous healthcare experience preferred, but not required. * Certification: 1.
