Phoenix Country Club company history timeline

1900

An immediate success both socially and athletically, the original membership of the Phoenix Country Club grew from 75 to nearly 100 by the time of the first tournament was held February 22, 1900.

1901

The grand opening was on January 1, 1901.

All three McKesson women were members of the Maricopa Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter, the one founded by Eliza Ainsworth in 1901.

1902

By the summer of 1902, tennis courts (dirt) were constructed and that fall, the first tournament was held.

1910

1910 - Ingleside Club opens for business.

1922

1927

Although club members early on desired a pool at this new site, it was not until 1927 that funds were authorized for it construction.

1928

The Ainsworth-McKesson House on East Country Club Drive was built circa 1928 (the value of the home had to be a minimum of $7,500, according to the deed restrictions). The large two-story adobe home sits well back from the front property line to allow for a grand circular entry.

1941

In 1941, Eliza Ainsworth sold the home to Theodore and Ruth McKesson, who moved in with their two daughters.

1946

In December of 1946, the first nine holes are ready for members to play.

Late 1946 - During the summer, the new owners of the property begin the redesign and reshaping of the golf course.

1946 - Ernest "Ernie" Suggs, a local businessman interested in organizing a golf Club, learns that the Ingleside golf property can be purchased.

1956

Late on the afternoon of the 90th day in June 1956, Suggs pays the $800 balance to the Arizona Title Office to complete the purchase.

1986

Many of the Pros playing in the tournament had played in the 1986 Phoenix Open at PCC.

2015

Phoenix Country Club Partners with the EC70 to Support Elevate Phoenix - March 2015

History Week 2015 also included a collection of Phoenix Country Club memorabilia along with Phoenix Open memorabilia supplied by local historian Mr.

2016

March 2016 - Honoree Phoenix Open Champion, Lanny Wadkins.
