Phoenix Zoo company history timeline

1965

Educational programming has also continued to grow in scope and reputation, beginning with the arts and crafts-based Summer Institute for Children in 1965, to today’s math and science-based ZooLab and Distance Learning programs offered through several Arizona school districts.

1998

The zoo expanded again in 1998 with the opening of Harmony Farms, home to a petting zoo and many domestic farm animals.

2006

In November 2006, aquatic species were added to the zoo with the opening of Stingray Bay.

2011

In April 2011, as a part of the zoo's capital campaign, Orang-Hutan: People of the Forest, the new orangutan exhibit opened to the public.
