1881

Jacob (Jack) Steinman was born in Sacramento in 1881, the son of a German immigrant.

1887

In 1887, Charles Nelson Jones, a professor of mathematics at the University of Michigan, got a patent for a stencil printer that took the technology one step further than Gestetner's Cyclostyle.

1912

Velvetone did its first screen printing jobs starting in 1912, and for decades it was among the leading graphic screen printing firms in America.

1913

He first encountered the screen printing process in San Francisco in 1913 as an employee in a pennant printing factory.

1915

Selectasine was founded in 1915 and Vitachrome followed one year later.

1923

Steinman lived in Oakland until at least 1923.

1981

He started by painting rats on the streets of Paris in 1981, he was influenced by graffiti in New York, but adapted it to suit his purposes in Europe.
