    We are seeking a highly skilled Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to lead and manage survey operations for a variety of construction layout and land development projects. This individual will oversee the full project lifecycle-from establishing control networks to delivering final as-built verification-while ensuring precision, quality, and technical excellence throughout every phase. As a PLS, you will play a pivotal role in connecting design intent with on-site execution, providing leadership in both field and office workflows, and ensuring all deliverables meet regulatory, contractual, and industry standards. Responsibilities Lead and manage all aspects of survey projects, including planning, field operations, data analysis, quality control, and final deliverables. Establish and verify horizontal and vertical control, perform staking, and produce accurate and complete as-built documentation. Provide technical oversight and mentorship to survey crews, ensuring best practices and safety standards are upheld. Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery. Oversee multiple concurrent construction layout projects, including those with survey fees exceeding $50k. Ensure compliance with state and local regulatory requirements as well as internal company standards. Essential Skills & Experience NC PLS certification required. 5+ years of progressive land surveying experience, with at least 5 years focused on construction layout for civil, commercial, or heavy civil projects. Proficiency in Trimble Business Center, Carlson Survey, and Autodesk Civil 3D. Hands-on NCDOT construction layout experience (field & office). Demonstrated mastery of robotic total stations, GNSS/VRS systems, digital levels, and laser scanning/LiDAR technology. Strong leadership abilities with experience directing field crews and managing workflow. OSHA Construction 30 certification. Additional Skills & Qualifications Degree in Geomatics, Land Surveying, or related field preferred. Completion of SIT and FS Exam. Experience with AutoCAD and Carlson software platforms. Strong communication, problem-solving, and project documentation skills. The ideal candidate will be involved with municipal public works and civil/site construction projects. The ideal candidate is an experienced survey professional that can provide day to day management and supervision of survey projects and be a part of preparing proposals, fee negotiations, and contracts for a growing survey group. WHAT YOU'LL DO * Manage land survey projects in the areas of: boundary, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, transportation/right-of-way, topographic, utility and construction staking * Communicate with clients and internal groups/employees in a professional manner. * Give direction to survey crews and technicians. * Review work of other surveying staff * Take ownership of monthly revenue and performance of assigned projects * Prepare proposals, scopes, fees and field files for projects. * Minimal travel and fieldwork may be necessary occasionally. * Interact effectively with others including consulting firms partnering with HWC, INDOT staff, local government agency staff and HWC staff. WHAT YOU NEED * Must hold a current Professional Surveyor License in Indiana or Ohio (or ability to quickly obtain) with 1 to 5 years' experience post licensure. * Knowledge in current version of AutoCAD/C3D a must * Knowledge in MicroStation considered a plus. * Microsoft Office knowledge. * ODOT prequalification in Right-of-Way Engineering considered a plus. * Knowledge of construction staking, and calculations associated with staking considered a plus. * Ability to think critically, manage time and problem solve. * Strong data analysis and organizational skills. * Complete competence working well independently and on a team. * Applicant must possess high ethical standards, have a strong sense of commitment to self-development, teamwork, and a desire to work in a deadline-driven team environment.
