The Ophthalmic Photographer performs diagnostic testing associated with specialized instruments to assist physicians in the treatment and diagnosis of various types of ocular etiology. Photographic technique, detailed documentation, and excellent patient care are expected to be performed at a higher-than-average level. Work requires considerable knowledge of standard photographic techniques, equipment, processes, and materials. Assists in archiving patient documents, and maintenance of instruments. Possesses capabilities to manage high volume patient workload, while maintaining accuracy of diagnostic testing and charting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Imaging photographic procedures include: Fluorescein Dye Injections/Indocyanine Green Dye Injections, Fundus photography, Optical Coherence Tonometry (OCT), Various visual field-test, Topography, Various A-Scans and B-scans, Pachymetry, Lensometry, Performs slit lamp photography, Ocular Coherence Biometry (OCB), Ultrasound Biomicroscopy (UBM), Pentacam Corneal Scanning/Keratograph, Confocal microscopy,and Color Vision Testing
If applicable must acquire proficient venipuncture skill and knowledge of associated side effects, and risks of administered dyes
Administers dilation/numbing drops when appropriate
Correctly codes/submits charges when necessary
Accurately documents interpretation templates and tasks to correct person/group
Demonstrates knowledge of navigating and making changes through AXIS, and submit coding corrections through EMR systems
Maintains a clean and sanitary work space before and after testing
Reviews chart for test information and correct eye to be tested
Demonstrates knowledge of how to perform machine maintenance and troubleshoot
Travels to a variety of EANM Clinic locations depending upon physician and staffing needs
Produces prints and discs using computer system and archives files
Skills/Qualifications:
Job requires high school diploma (or equivalent).
Three or more years' experience of ophthalmic photographic technique is preferred.
Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), and is certified as either a Certified Retinal Angiographer (CRA), CDOS (Certified Diagnostic Ophthalmic Sonographer), ROUB (Registered Ophthalmic Ultrasound Biometrist), and or Optical Coherence Tomographer-Certified (OCT-C) is preferred. Encouraged to obtain an additional certification within 12 months of hire.
Certified phlebotomy technician certificate is preferred.
