The Photographer will lead the photography process from concept to final image, combining strong technical expertise with a sharp eye for styling, composition, and visual storytelling. Key Responsibilities
Creative & Storytelling
Concept and execute imagery that showcases not just product features, but the emotional benefits and lifestyle moments Step2 is known for.
Bring a strong sense of styling, color, composition, and current aesthetic trends to every shoot-from minimal modern setups to warm family-lifestyle environments. Be able to switch from shooting a children's product to high end pool furniture, matching photography styles and aesthetics to the product category.
Infuse shoots with brand-appropriate storytelling that helps consumers imagine our products in their own homes and backyards.
Studio & On-Location Photography
Photograph all Step2 products in studio and on location, with and without talent; comfortable directing children and parents to capture natural, authentic moments.
Prep and style sets, including props, backgrounds, lighting design, and overall atmosphere to create visually compelling environments.
Collaborate with the Videographer to ensure photo and video assets complement one another.
Pre-Production & Production
Partner with Creative, Product, and Marketing teams to determine shoot strategy, style direction, mood, and execution approach.
Travel annually (typically off-season) to capture product photography in different climates and settings.
Post-Production & Asset Management
Retouch, color-correct, and edit images with a keen eye for detail-enhancing quality while maintaining brand consistency.
Modify backgrounds, props, and environments as needed to achieve high-impact visual results.
Organize, tag, and upload all assets into the digital asset management (DAM) system; ensure metadata accuracy and file integrity.
Studio Operations
Manage all photography gear, lighting equipment, and studio materials; maintain an organized and efficient shooting environment.
Research new props, materials, and set needs; source, build, or recommend options to keep Step2 imagery fresh and inspiring.
Support Creative Services on a variety of cross-functional brand projects.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in photography, graphic design, visual arts, or related field preferred
Minimum 10+ years of digital photography experience, in studio and on-location. Consumer products preferred
Advanced proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, including retouching, compositing, and color grading
Demonstrated experience blending traditional photography principles with CGI workflows, including lighting and rendering CAD-based product models in software such as KeyShot, Blender, Cinema 4D, V-Ray, or Redshift.
Familiarity with digital asset management systems
A visually driven creator with a strong sense of aesthetic-understands composition, color, styling, and emerging photography trends
Demonstrated ability to photograph consumer products in both lifestyle and studio environments
Experience directing child talent and families to capture genuine, engaging moments
Detail-obsessed, organized, and proactive in solving creative and technical challenges
Strong time-management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple shoots and deadlines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; thrives in a collaborative team environment
Self-motivated, always exploring new techniques, tools, and trends to elevate creative output
Demonstrated skills through a portfolio is required
Ability to travel up to 10%
Work Environment:
This role operates primarily in the photography studio and office environment, where using a computer, software applications, telephone, printer, etc. are essential. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs (camera gear, props, set materials) and support occasional travel for location shoots.
