A Brief Overview:
The licensed Physical Therapy Assistance provides direct professional patient/resident physical therapy services under the general supervision of a physicaltherapist. They are responsible for performing procedures consistent with or based on the age and developmental status of the patient/resident to maximize clinical outcome and safety.
What you will do:
Knowledge of the federal, state and local laws that apply to job and area of responsibility.
Represents NorthShore University HealthSystem in professional manner.
Knowledge and application of NorthShore University HealthSystem policies, procedures and service standards that apply to job and area of responsibility.
Administers delegated direct resident/patient care.
Demonstrates competency in all patient care service areas covered. Patient/resident care procedures are performed consistent with or based on the age and developmental status of the patient/resident to maximize their clinical outcome and safety.
Orders appropriate assisting devices as indicated.
Instructs patient/resident and family in home program.
Adapts treatment programs for patients/residents with multiple problem seeking guidance from primary therapist as defined by practice act.
Maintains and adjusts schedule to meet caseload needs and all staffing levels to achieve expected level of productivity.
Prepares and maintains accurate patient/resident records.
Issues written instructions on home exercise programs.
Participates in peer review process of chart audits.
Reports on patient/resident progress at staffing and other conferences.
Contacts physician/physician's assistant/resident appropriately to facilitate optimal patient/resident care.
Confers with supervising therapist and other related healthcare professionals regarding patient/resident progress, treatment program and changes in status.
Participates in in-service education for physical therapy staff.
Provides clinical instruction of one physical therapy assistant per year as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator
Volunteers for community service projects as they occur (i.e. participation in physical therapy week, high school student program).
Assists in organizing and maintaining equipment, scheduling, etc.
Billing is completed according to policy.
Follow MTR guidelines and completes as required.
What you will need:
Associates Degree Required Or
Bachelors Degree Preferred
Graduate of a school of Physical Therapy Assistant program with possession of an associate degree from an accredited college or university approved by the APTA. And
2 Years of clinical experience; entry level position.
Must demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with physicians, other health professionals, patients, family members, and the community.
Must demonstrate good organizational and time management skills.
Must be able to work effectively in an independent environment.
Requirements also dependent on site/service candidate is being hired for - Women's Health, aquatics.
Lymphedema knowledge is beneficial.
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physical Therapy Assistant in the State of IL Required And
CPR or BLS - American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification Required

Position Summary:
Works under the administrative direction of the Director of Rehab Services and the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Therapy. Clinical Duties:
* Assists supervising physicaltherapist in overall assessment of the patient.
* Performs but does not interpret selected measurement procedures such as joint range of motion, gross strength of muscle groups, and length and girth of body parts.
* Assess general mental, emotional, and cognitive status in frequently referred diagnoses.
* Obtains general subjective information to assist in evaluation.
* Assists in the provision of patient treatment.
* Upon completion of the initial evaluation by a supervising PT, initiates treatment according to the prescribed plan of care. Alters treatment only after approval by the supervising PT.
* Utilizes subjective and objective results supplied by supervising PT to guide treatment approach.
* Reviews chart and/or obtains current information prior to treatment session and identifies information, which may necessitate modification of PT treatment. Modifies treatment procedure if indicated by patient response and within the limits of the plan of care. Seeks guidance from supervising PT if plan of care needs to be changed.
* Assesses patient response to treatment and reports unexpected responses to supervising PT. Documents incidences with assistance.
* Instructs patient, nursing, and family regarding the importance of participation in PT program.
* Involves patient and family, as appropriate, in treatment and discharge planning.
* Recommends (for use while in the hospital and/or at discharge) necessary durable medical equipment or other therapeutic devices that promotes optimal functioning and patient safety. Seeks guidance from supervising PT for equipment selection and most cost effective materials.
* Utilizes appropriate modalities that include but are not limited to heat, cold, light, water, sound and electricity. Utilizes exercise equipment, general strengthening and range of motion exercises.
* Is able to present rationale for selection of a particular procedure.
* Participates in patient care and team conferences, clinics, and rounds for the purpose of coordinating patient care. Makes a verbal/written report regarding patient's status when requested.
* Incorporates safety, infection control and emergency procedures into treatment.
* Charts and authenticates progress notes and treatment summaries in a timely manner.

Massage Therapist provides massage therapy service under the direction of the Clinical Director according to the individualized care of plan.
MASSAGE THERAPIST RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directs and aids patients through massage therapy interventions to assist with alleviating symptoms of anxiety, depression, isolation, agitation, restlessness, sleeplessness, pain, muscle Tension, circulation, stiffness, limited mobility, relaxation, and comfort.
Assesses referral/patient for appropriate medical indication for services and performs assessment to determine effectiveness of therapy.
Treats patient to relieve symptoms and provide relaxation and comfort.
Observes and reports to the clinical supervisor or clinical director and the organization personnel the patient's response to treatment and any changes in patient's condition.
Maintains necessary records; clinical notes, problem charting, coordination notes, which will be incorporated into the patient's clinical record within 24-48 hours of session and modified as needed.
MASSAGE THERAPIST QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an accredited massage therapy program with minimum of 500 hours of training in Massage Therapy. (Certified Massage Therapist) Meets personnel qualifications stated in 418.114(b)(8). Preferred completion of National Certification Exam (NCTMB)
Current licenses or certifications as required by state law.
Possesses and maintains current CPR certification.
Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state/or organization requirements and is in good working order.

+ Administer the physical therapy treatment plan as developed by the PhysicalTherapist.
+ Administer non-complex active and passive manual therapeutic exercises, therapeutic massage, traction heat, light, cold, water, and electrical modalities to patients.
+ Accurately documents daily, weekly, or monthly records of clients'. Submits clinical paperwork to the office on time each week.
+ Attend educational meetings and coordinates and contributes to department in-services.
+ Notify physicaltherapist or Executive Director of any equipment failures, lack of supplies, staff or client changes, and any other departmental

**Required Experience/Skills:**

+ Associate degree in Physical Therapy from an American Physical Therapy Association.

+ Minimum one year experience as a Physical Therapy Assistant
+ Comprehensive knowledge of the physical, emotional, social, and biological changes that occur in the geriatric population.

+ Demonstrates good verbal and written communication and organization skills.
+ Communicates and demonstrates a professional image/attitude for patients, families, clients, coworkers, and others.

+ Maintains current licensure certifications and meets mandatory continuing education requirements.
