Job Description

Responsibilities
Implements a physical therapy treatment program as described by a physical therapist's written plan of care.
Provides physical therapy services under the supervision of the PT, and treatments are modified only as allowed by the plan of care.
Monitors patient's condition and progress towards treatment goals. Motivates and instructs patient/caregiver using appropriate methods.
Documents appropriately in the medical record and completes other documentation duties accurately and efficiently.
Ensures safe care of patients by adhering to policies, procedures, and standards within specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity, flexibility based on patient census, and accuracy of practice.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Graduate from CAPTE-accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
Exercise, manual-based skills with sports rehabilitation experience.
Current state of Louisiana license or license eligible.
Excellent patient care and communication skills with the ability to multitask while providing an exceptional experience for anyone who enters the clinic.

Essential Functions:
Under the direction of the licensed/registered physical therapist, optimizes functional abilities and skills of patients in facilities by: assisting in screening and initial evaluation of all patients; implementing treatment for all assigned patients; delivering treatment according to the established treatment plan; accurately documenting progress toward objectives and communicating patient status and needs to the patient, the patient's family, the staff and other professionals.
Provides direct supervision of Rehab Aide in skilled tasks during group and individual treatment in a manner that promotes appropriate utilization of resources and development of clinical skills in accordance with State Practice Acts and Lagniappe Rehabilitation policy.
Builds a strong rehabilitation care practice within each facility by: establishing and maintaining courteous and helpful interaction patterns with staff, patients and families which reflects sensitivity to individual needs and a problem-solving approach; contributing to facility patient care, utilization review, administrative staff/department head, and family conference activities/communications as directed by the Physical Therapist; establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other healthcare professionals and colleagues in the community; maintaining awareness of change in patient populations, patient conditions and programs and keeping the licensed or registered Physical Therapist informed directly and in a timely manner, of patient progress and facility issues; adhering to the requirements of the patient's Bill of Rights; adhering to established facility policies and procedures related to environmental safety, orderliness, risk management, infection control and emergency situations.
Enhancing clinical expertise, professional and management skills through interaction with managers, therapists and other professional staff, self-study, and other continuing education activities; maintaining valid state license (where appropriate); obtain membership and participate in professional organizations; maintain awareness of issues related to the profession of physical therapy and the health care environment.
Understand managed care/Prospective Payment System (PPS) billing and treatment guidelines. Provide quality care as well as reasonable goals and outcomes within the guidelines.
Compliant with infection control procedures and environmental safety protocol within a facility.
Maintain confidentiality of Lagniappe Rehabilitation, facility and patient information.
Required Credentials:
Graduate of an APTA accredited school for Physical Therapist Assistants.
Valid state license (where appropriate).
Valid driver's license.
Abilities:
Travel between facilities during scheduled hours.
Work varying hours, including weekends and holidays.
Performs all other duties as assigned by Rehabilitation Director.
Attendance at all Lagniappe Rehabilitation staff meetings is mandatory.
Patient lifting using appropriate biomechanical techniques frequently throughout the course of a work day/shift; must be capable of easily lifting (50) pounds of dead weight alone.

JOB OVERVIEW: Provides Occupational Therapy services to patients by assisting in the assessment, treatment, program planning and implementation related to documentation and communication. Functions under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
a. Under the direct supervision of an Occupational Therapist, provides therapy services for 5-7 patients each day, accurately documenting treatment codes and filing treatment notes in medical records by the next day.
b. Assists the Occupational Therapist in the evaluation process in the areas of self-care, homemaking, function mobility and coordination. Assists in the evaluation of other areas as directed.
c. Identifies indications for and assists in evaluations as appropriate intervals under the direction of the Occupational Therapist.
d. Assists the Occupational Therapist in identifying a problem list, short-term goals and treatment plan.
e. Conducts both individual and group treatment as assigned by the Occupational Therapist outlined in treatment plan in the areas of ADL, functional mobility, ROM, strength, coordination, cognitive/perceptual remediation and functional maintenance.
f. Assists in the selection of Occupational Therapy techniques/media and the sequence of activities, adapts techniques/media as indicated by patient performance and following consultation with the Occupational Therapist. No major modification to the treatment plan is made without prior consultation with the Occupational Therapist.
g. In collaboration with other therapists, ensures each patient receives at least 15 hours of therapy in a 7 day period. Documents reasons for missed time and files as a treatment note.
h. Adheres to department and patient schedule and modifies as appropriate for treatment regimen.
i. Provides, recommends, fabricates adaptive devices or other equipment, trains patient, family and appropriate staff in the use or application of the above.
j. Participates in patient, family and staff education.
k. Confers formally and informally with other team members in coordination with the total rehabilitation program of the patient.
l. Adheres to Occupational Therapy Department procedures regarding documentation of Occupational Therapy services.
m. Provides treatment in accordance with established standards of the departmental procedures and productivity standards.
n. Maintains safe and clean work area and adheres to facility and company safety standards.
o. Consistently demonstrates sound judgment of the evaluation, planning, implementation and follow-up of patient therapy programs.
p. Maintains positive relationships and rapport with co-workers, patients, family members and facility personnel.
q. Misses no more than one scheduled shift per month, is late for a shift no more than once per month, and finishes assigned duties within designated shift times.
r. Assists with and participates in Performance Improvement Program as required.
s. Assumes responsibility for ongoing continuing education and professional development
