A Brief Overview:
The licensed Physical Therapy Assistance provides direct professional patient/resident physical therapy services under the general supervision of a physicaltherapist. They are responsible for performing procedures consistent with or based on the age and developmental status of the patient/resident to maximize clinical outcome and safety.
What you will do:
Knowledge of the federal, state and local laws that apply to job and area of responsibility.
Represents NorthShore University HealthSystem in professional manner.
Knowledge and application of NorthShore University HealthSystem policies, procedures and service standards that apply to job and area of responsibility.
Administers delegated direct resident/patient care.
Demonstrates competency in all patient care service areas covered. Patient/resident care procedures are performed consistent with or based on the age and developmental status of the patient/resident to maximize their clinical outcome and safety.
Orders appropriate assisting devices as indicated.
Instructs patient/resident and family in home program.
Adapts treatment programs for patients/residents with multiple problem seeking guidance from primary therapist as defined by practice act.
Maintains and adjusts schedule to meet caseload needs and all staffing levels to achieve expected level of productivity.
Prepares and maintains accurate patient/resident records.
Issues written instructions on home exercise programs.
Participates in peer review process of chart audits.
Reports on patient/resident progress at staffing and other conferences.
Contacts physician/physician's assistant/resident appropriately to facilitate optimal patient/resident care.
Confers with supervising therapist and other related healthcare professionals regarding patient/resident progress, treatment program and changes in status.
Participates in in-service education for physical therapy staff.
Provides clinical instruction of one physical therapy assistant per year as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator
Volunteers for community service projects as they occur (i.e. participation in physical therapy week, high school student program).
Assists in organizing and maintaining equipment, scheduling, etc.
Billing is completed according to policy.
Follow MTR guidelines and completes as required.
What you will need:
Associates Degree Required Or
Bachelors Degree Preferred
Graduate of a school of Physical Therapy Assistant program with possession of an associate degree from an accredited college or university approved by the APTA. And
2 Years of clinical experience; entry level position.
Must demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with physicians, other health professionals, patients, family members, and the community.
Must demonstrate good organizational and time management skills.
Must be able to work effectively in an independent environment.
Requirements also dependent on site/service candidate is being hired for - Women's Health, aquatics.
Lymphedema knowledge is beneficial.
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physical Therapy Assistant in the State of IL Required And
CPR or BLS - American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification Required

· Visits all new admissions to identify restorative needs and communicates those needs to appropriate personnel.
· Assists in communicating with families concerning patient's progress in care planning conferences or on a one-on-one basis with the family and the customer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assure all restorative procedures are followed in accordance with established policies.
Assist in developing a written plan of care for each customer that identifies the problems/needs of the customer.
Attends and actively participates in customer care plan conference.
Attend and participate in continuing education programs.
Recommend to the Clinical Support Supervisor the equipment and supply needs of the department.
Prepare materials and supplies needed for daily programs.
Record daily participation of customers in the Restorative Program.
Provides assistance with activities of daily living.
Attend staff meetings, etc., as directed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in and/or prepare patients.
At times, work independently with a PhysicalTherapist available via phone, except for Medicare patients where a licensed PhysicalTherapist must be always on the premises.
Able to use modalities, soft tissue work including massage as ordered by the PhysicalTherapist.
Document per physician's prescription.
Bill patients accordingly.
Adhere to policies and procedures including vacation, attendance / punctuality.
Attend staff meetings, as ordered.
Assists with student internship programs, as needed.
Schedule patients per the prescribed metrics.
Complete required paperwork within 24 hours of the patient appointment (documentation and billing).
Instruct patients and family in an effective and professional manner.
Maintain clean, safe working environment to facilitate quality of patient care and efficient operations.
Recommend appropriate supplies and equipment.
Recognize and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
Attend continued education programs as approved by the Clinic Manager to ensure treatment procedures are state of the art.
Assist in developing new programs.
Maintain positive behavior at work with internal / external customers.
Exhibit a willingness to adopt to changing environment including coverage at various locations.
Maintain appropriate confidentiality.
Achieve goals and strives to improve quality.
Aware of prescribed metrics for efficiency and productivity.
Communicate with doctors in a timely manner regarding patient status changes or treatment questions.
Notifies/documents patient discharge to doctors.

Essential characteristics:
The PTA will be responsible for the care delivery of patients, carried out within the scope of practice, defined by the state laws and the state Board of Physical Therapy

Conducts physical therapy care within the scope of practice, as well as agency policies and regulations;
Consistently follows company policies and procedures;
Maintains compliance with applicable federal, state, accreditation and local standards, rules and regulations;

Participates with the interdisciplinary team to assure coordination of care and continuity of care delivery
Reports all changes to patient findings to the PhysicalTherapist, as well as the physician where applicable
