A Physical Therapist who excels in this role:
Supervises physical therapy assistants and aids in performing treatment.

Summary:
Evaluates and conducts medically prescribed physical therapy treatment programs. Provides educational information to patients regarding injury prevention, ergonomics, restorative therapy, and rehabilitation therapy.
Supervises physical therapy assistants and aides in performing treatment.
Coordinates the physical therapy care for the patient population of primarily adolescent, adult and geriatric persons who are acutely ill and have medically complex needs, which result in mobility and activities of daily living deficits.
The Physical Therapist is an integral member of an interdisciplinary team and is expected to accurately assess the patients' needs; identify and implement appropriate physical therapy treatment; coordinate and/or provide patient and family teaching and work in collaborative association with the interdisciplinary team to provide timely, safe, and cost-effective treatment to achieve the optimal functional outcome.
The functions are carried out according to hospital policy and mission statement, Performance Improvement Plan and philosophy of the Physical Medicine and Rehab Department.

Administrative Functions
Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct our physical therapy services, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern nursing care facilities.
Communicate with staff from related departments when planning therapy services.
Develop and maintain occupational therapy standards.
Assist in standardizing the methods in which physical therapy will be accomplished.
Review physical therapy policies, procedures, manuals, job descriptions, a minimum of annually.
Interpret physical therapy policies and procedures to personnel, residents, family members, as necessary.
Participate in discharge planning, development and implementation of resident care plans, resident assessments, as necessary.
Assume the authority, responsibility, and accountability of directing the occupational therapy department in conjunction with the Director of Rehabilitation.
Maintain treatment records, resident files, and progress notes, as required.
