Job Summary:
The Industrial Athletic Trainer will plan, coordinate, and supervise all components of a worksite injury management and health improvement program for employees. Unique skills of an Industrial Athletic Trainer include a focus on injury prevention and evaluation, ergonomic risk assessments and corrective action planning, OSHA emergency/first aid treatment, health education, and worksite health promotion and marketing activities.
Position Responsibilities:
Perform comprehensive wellness assessments and ergonomic risk analyses
Develop and implement site-specific wellness initiatives and programs
Use innovative, creative solutions and employee empowerment to design and implement ergonomic interventions
Provide first-aid treatment and management for musculoskeletal complaints including the use of ice, heat, wellness stretches, massage, tape techniques, and non-rigid bracing
Provide orthopedic injury assessments. As per the state practice act, this position does not provide rehabilitation services, but will participate in education and injury prevention
Coordinate and implement treatment plans that incorporate therapeutic exercise, modalities, and work conditioning as necessary
Perform data analysis and execute administrative tasks including, but not limited to, collection of data, completion of forms, documenting patient files, and generating reports for return on investment and budgets
Create an environment of trust and care, allowing workers to take responsibility to reduce or eliminate actions under their control that contribute to injury and illness
Communicate regularly with safety personnel regarding rehab and injury prevention activities and be a patient advocate for non-occupational injuries
Attend meetings and serve on committees as requested by client
Opportunity to author articles for various newsletters and the company Intranet site as needed

Position Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in related field
Board of Certification (BOC) certified
State licensure/certification
Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification
Willing to travel to various client locations
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with client and employees

Knowledge of OSHA Recordability and worker's compensation

Qualifications:
Doctorate or master's degree in physical therapy from an accredited institution

This is a full-time position working 80 hours every two week pay period with a dynamic team of therapists. JOB FUNCTIONS
Quality:

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION: (PHYSICAL THERAPIST)
PREPARATION AND TRAINING - Must have North Dakota license to practice as a physical therapist. Will complete CPR every other year. Position is required to attend Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training in the appropriate timeframe according to department orientation checklist.
WORK EXPERIENCE - One year work experience as a physical therapist is preferred, not required.
ATTENDENCE - Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at JRMC. Employee are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees are also expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule.
ANALYTICAL ABILITY - A very high degree of analytical ability is required to perform a majority of the therapist's duties. Analysis is an on going thing all day long with each patient, involving the continual assessment/reassessment of the patient's condition/responses and consequent adjustments needed to be made in regards to treatment plans and goals. Good ability needed to assess patient scheduling and coordinate procedures as needed for efficient operation of the department.
INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT - The PT works under the supervision of the Rehab Manager in accordance with established Rehab Department policies and procedures. Should be a self-starter and very responsible as most duties are autonomous in nature. Much of the work is performed with very little instruction being given to the therapist. Errors in judgment may highly impact the financial or public relation stature of the Rehab Department and/or the hospital. Treatments are administered on a physician referral basis.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS - A very high degree of a PT's duties involve contact with others (hospital employees, patients, physicians, etc). Imperative that this person maintain good relationships with coworkers, patients, families, visitors. Must be courteous and tactful at all times. Should have good communication skills. Require a very high level of interpersonal skills.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WELFARE OF OTHERS - The physical and/or emotional well-being of other employees and patients are highly impacted by the performance of the PT; consequences can be serious. Most, if not all, of the therapist's activities during a day impact on the welfare of patients and employees. Responsible for maintaining absolute confidentiality of information.
MENTAL/VISUAL EFFORT - Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Must demonstrate physical and emotional ability to meet agreed upon work schedule and performance standards required by the position. Required duties are such that concentrated attention must be applied on demand consistent with manual skill requirements in situations that may at times be stressful. Visual acuity necessary for reading charts and working with medical devices; color perception necessary for interpreting testing procedures involving color comparisons. A very high degree of the PT duties require intense mental application or attention to details; this is essentially on a regular basis for the entire work day. Assessment, treatment, planning, goal setting, program development, supervision of staff, documentation, record keeping, scheduling and communications are all included on the above.
WORKING CONDITIONS - Majority of position requirements are done within the Rehab Department or Hospital. However, some duties may be performed outside at a school, home, nursing home or other facilities. Requires driving personal vehicle. Frequent walking, lifting and bending are required to perform normal duties. Pace can be very demanding. Requires participation in and complies with JRMC Safety Management Program. Maintains knowledge of and observes Standard Precautions. Practices aseptic techniques whenever appropriate. OSHA Job Classification: This position is defined as a Category I: Employee does have exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Participates in and complies with Jamestown Regional Medical Center Safety Management program. Position is subject to frequent interruptions. Work may be beyond normal working hours.
