A Brief Overview
The PhysicalTherapist is responsible for planning and providing physical therapy treatment for patients in accordance with professional and Methodist Healthcare standards of treatment. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.
What you will do
Performs initial patient assessment.
Implements patient treatments based on assessment and written plan.
Provides ongoing patient assessment through observation of patient and review of records.
Identifies patient specific physical therapy rehabilitation learning needs and provides appropriate education.
Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self-development and enhancement of professional competency.

Bachelor's Degree Physical Therapy

Ability to understand and prepare moderately complex written materials, such as patient records.
Ability to communicate verbally with Associates, physicians and other outside professionals.
Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of work flow.
Supervision Provided by this Position
There are no supervisory responsibilities assigned to this position. May provide guidance and direction to therapy assistants.
Physical Demands
The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
Must have good balance and coordination.
The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.

POSITION SUMMARY
The PhysicalTherapist (PT) assists patients (inmates) who have lost motor function due to injury, illness, or disability and create a rehabilitation plan. The PT works under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and is an integral part of the medical team at their facility.
ESENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Will be required to work within a correctional facility.
Evaluate patients' physical conditions and develop individualized treatment plans
Ensures patient observation for therapy evaluations, formulates treatment plans, and provides treatment.
Analyzes treatment plans utilizing various technique which may include: therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, functional training, and mechanical modalities.
Documents pertinent observations and logical conclusions to validate need for treatment.
Utilizes available in-house resource personnel for treatment and resolution of identified problems before utilizing off-site referral.
Provides treatment of disability, injury, and disease by use of different mechanisms.
Demonstrates proper technique of patient management according to established policy and licensure requirements.
Supports standards of medical care through adherence to existing policies and procedures.
Serves as a resource to other professional or non-professional personnel providing instructions as needed.
Participates in monthly review of quality care and chart reviews as requested.
Notifies Site Medical Director and/or Site Health Services Administrator of schedule changes.
Assists in arrangement for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time.
Other duties as requested by the Site Medical Director.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy program.
Current TennesseePhysicalTherapist license
CPR/BLS Certified
Able to deal tactfully with personnel, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
Possess leadership and supervisory ability and be able to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace

Responsibilities
Our PhysicalTherapists examine and treat patients with physical impairments through the use of physical modalities. The goal is to assist persons who are physically challenged to improve mobility and function, independent self-care, other skills necessary for functioning in daily living. We have Specialty Programs that include Balance and Fall Prevention, Spine Safety, Total Hip and Knee Replacement Program, and our Total Shoulder Replacement Program. He/she administers skilled care to clients requiring intermittent professional services and teaches the family and other members of the health care team. These services are performed in accordance with the physicians orders and the established plan of care, under the direction and supervision of the Branch Director.
Qualifications
Must possess a valid state drivers license.
Must possess automobile liability insurance.
Must wear seatbelts at all times while driving.
Must have dependable transportation kept in good working condition.

Youth Villages offers paid internship opportunities for bachelor's and master's students across select residential and community-based programs. Placements are determined during the interview process based on availability, academic requirements, and your individual experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Recreation Therapy Intern:
Works under the supervision of a NCTRC certified staff member
Shadows one or more recreation therapists while interacting with youth from multiple programs
Facilitates group sessions typically held 3 times per week, lasting 1 to 2.5 hours long
Participates in treatment planning (including but not limited to evaluating, setting, and implementing recreational goals for each youth)
Completes accurate and timely documentation in an electronic medical record system (EMR)
Performs other duties as assigned
