Major duties and responsibilities of the Cardiology PA position:
* Provide care for Veteran patients, sometimes under the review and/or co-signature of a physician.
* Perform overall assessment of patients' conditions through history taking, record reviews, physical examinations, etc.
* Diagnose and develop an individualized cardiac treatment plan in various clinical settings.
* Write orders for diagnostic testing including, but not limited to laboratory, X-rays, imaging studies/EKGs, blood and urine tests and any other special testing and studies whenever indicated.
* Prescribe medications and provide education and counseling to Veterans and their families regarding medical condition, prescribed treatments and drugs, diagnostic options, review of treatment plans, discussions of patient goals, etc.
* Develop meaningful goals to assist patients and their families in attaining the optimum level of physical, physiological, sociological and psychological balance within the limitations imposed by their illnesses.
* Contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, and actively participate in patient safety initiatives.
* Establish professional working relationship with clinical service providers within the health care center and Community Base Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
* Provide telephone consultation, screening consults for appropriate and timely care prior to scheduling. Communicate with multidisciplinary team members, such as pharmacy, dietary, IT, lab, other specialists/providers.
* Work independently, as allowed by VA policies, with delegated prescriptive authority for appropriate classes of medications.
* Consult with the physician where appropriate.
* Coordinate and supervise the delivery of complex outpatient care for cardiology patients including patient evaluation, ordering, scheduling and/or performance of cardiologic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as cardioversions and pharmacologic stress tests.
* Undertake telephone triage for cardiac issues.
* Serve as primary provider for an independent panel of clinic patients.
* Perform/ assist with outpatient cardioversions/ stress testing.
* Triage requests for outpatient Cardiology consultation in a timely manner. Coordinate tests and visits based on clinical urgency, and assist in facilitating IFC consults and referrals from other facilities.
* Maintain continuing education as required by the specialty section and the appropriate professional licensing board.

The PA is a licensed independent/ collaborating practitioner with advanced education and national certification who provides evidence-based care for a population of patients.
Major Duties:
* Work independently/ collaboratively - with the Milo C. Huempfner HCC Specialty Clinic staff/ providers, as well as the Milwaukee VA Dermatology division, provide comprehensive dermatology care to outpatients, including evaluations, consultations, examinations, diagnosis, follow-up, medical record documentation/record-keeping and correspondence.
* Treat/ manage disorders of the skin, according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques.
* Perform minor procedures such as biopsies, shave biopsies, simple excisions, cryotherapy and intraregional injections.
* Manage a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions, with an emphasis on health promotion using evidence-based practice.
* Order and interpret labs, tests, and diagnostic studies - such as, but not limited to, laboratory, X-rays, imaging studies/EKGs, blood and urine tests, as well as any other special testing and studies, whenever indicated.
* Prescribe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
* Assesses and adjust the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
* Provide education to patients and their families.
* Prescribe medications and provide education and counseling to Veterans and their families regarding medical condition, prescribed treatments and drugs, diagnostic options, review of treatment plans, discussions of patient goals, etc.

* Establish professional working relationship with clinical service providers within the medical center, Outpatient Clinics (OPCs), and the Community Base Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), and provide dermatology education as needed.

* Complete medical records in accordance with Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff

Individuals will have demonstrated the ability to analyze and solve more complex medical problems than at the entry level grade and can utilize their training in the successful practice of patient care and participate in team problem solving. Individuals demonstrate the KSAs of PA-II intermediate level by:
i. Two years of successful practice as a PA.

ii. Successful completion of a PA post-graduate residency program sponsored by VHA Office of Academic Affiliations or other postgraduate residency programs accredited by VA, ARC-PA, U.S. Armed Forces, or another accrediting agency.

iii. A doctoral degree in a health-related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
(b) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs). PAs at this level are not required to meet each individual KSA listed below to qualify, but should be able to demonstrate, develop, or acquire those not met upon appointment for PA-II:

They function as experts in clinical practice and/or in areas related to the assigned roles and responsibilities, may serve as mentors for transitioning PAs, and may provide training for health care students.
